Hope to be there to cheer on the local boys, Paul
Bonhomme and Steve Jones. Apparently the drive
up to Longleat house is being pressed into service
as a runway, which should be interesting. That
being said, the plan for the San Francisco race
is to fly off an aircraft carrier in the bay -
taking off won't be a problem, getting back aboard
should concentrate the mind wonderfully.....

Slightly off topic but a quick question for Extra 300;
Just wandering how you went about getting into aerobatics and when you started etc?
I'm hopefully going to start training for my PPL early next year at Gransden airfield having had a couple of trial lessons there with Skyline. Seen Mark Jeffries fly from there a number of times and it looks amazing, I know I'm getting way ahead of myself but was just interested how people actually get into the sport from being a basic pilot..

G-SIII available for hire from WW....or can you
still get your hands on G-RGEE?

Just my 2 pence worth - if you know you want to
learn to fly in order to fly aerobatics, then do
your PPL on an aerobatic type with an instructor
qualified to teach aeros as well as the PPL. IMHO,
a Cap 10b or 10c is the ideal platform for this -
the initial learning curve will be steeper, but
getting the tail-wheel skills early and learning
to fly in something more demanding than the standard
Piper or Cessna fare would be an excellent foundation.

After that, there are no actual formal aerobatic
qualifications you can add to your PPL - there's an
AOPA aerobatics certificate, which provides an
excellent education in the safety aspects and an
introduction to basic figures - but the usual way
to move forward is to start flying competition
aerobatics with the British Aerobatics Association -
www.aerobatics.org.uk - and flying at a club
where there are an existing group of competition
pilots helps a great deal with that.

I just do not have the time at the moment,

although I have applied though!

Agree about the picture, I know its a choice we take but please have some compassion.

The pilot Alexandre Krotov survived the crash. Wouldn't have posted otherwise.
