1k to spend, what projector?

DLP or LCD? can't make up my mind, has to be quiet, only 12ft to the projected wall, will have to fill a 72" chimney brest, and will be used for DVD films, so 1080i and all that gumpf is essential.

recomendations please on kit and any other sites to visit.

Are you looking new or pre-owned?
I have a Sony Cineza, and am delighted with it. You could look for a VPL-HS2 or 3 (I think) for around 800, and budget a couple of hundred to replace the bulb soonish.

I understand the Panasonic PT-AE500s are highly regarded. I haven't seen one though. I think www.komplett.co.uk actually sell a sub-1k DLP projector now.

Get a 2K one for half price, ex-demo Screenplay 5700 at Music Matters in Sutton Coldfield for £950, be quick at that price, great projector I have one!

I've got a Sony VPL-ES2, about 600gbp, but every so often they run a free slim ps2 offer via sony to go with it, which increases the value somewhat. I use it for DVDs, PC, Xbox, Sky and PS2. I love it, its not the best that money can buy, but for that amount of cash you can do much better.

Have a look at BenQ we use them in the office and they seem reasonably priced. (Is the one Edt has as well)
