What an absolutely brilliant building.

I'd not seen any pictures of the interior until today - I can't believe the art deco styling and marble work in this most industrial of buildings. Even the original controls have style.

Not sure about the plans for the future as it seems a shame to 'lose' such an icon, but I guess it's far better than leaving it to sit rotting like it has been for the past 20 or so years...

Some fantastic pictures there and a superb future plan. It looks oddly artistic as it is now, even though derelict buildings for some reason scare the bejaysus out of me.

Battersea Power Station should be made into a huge gym with thousands of treadmills, exercise bikes, pulley weights, etc.

Then hook it all up to the National Grid.

Hey Presto - it's a power station again!

Battersea Power Station needs to be pulled down and let developers get on with building something useful like more housing (of which a proportion should be reserved for certain people (eg nurses and teachers)).

I wish people would stop getting misty eyed about such an ugly building. Its a defunct Power Station ffs.

I think it's an integral part of the London skyline (not to mention album covers) in that part of the world and should be put to good use...

....the powerstation that is now the Tate Modern certainly has benefitted from it's refurb

Same here, and don't even get me started on ship wreckages.

It saddens me that the civic pride which once went into marvellous buildings like this has given way to profit above all else.

pull the er down! why do we have to get sentimental over some of these buildings? they were ugly when they were created - and they are still ugly now. Why are we desperate to live in the past?

Because we should preserve examples of our industrial heritage You seem to be cast in the same mould as Dr. Beeching...

Anyway - whatever they do to it, they must have an inflatable pig hanging in the air above it!

I have ship wreck fear too. Whenever I see tv shows about deep sea diving, I'm always waiting for the mauled corpse to come floating out. I need to get out more

The power station was only completed in 1933! So that side of the building is only 72 years old. The other half of the building was built in 53, giving it an age of 52 years.

The 1933 half closed down in 75 and the other half followed in 83, giving it a lifespan of a whole 42 years and 30 years respectively.

Our real industrial heritage can be found near places like Matlock (Derbys) with the Masson & Cromwell Mills from the 18th century.

Yes so it's comparatively modern, it's still an interesting and very recongnisable building with cultural significance.

I think architecturally its very interesting. You don't see that many art deco power stations.

So if we demolished all your fairly modern buildings, in a 100 years or so we would have no heritage left from this earer.

A masterful piece of understatement, D-Mike!

As an Architect, I'm with the other people whoday it's an important landmark and should be retained. In any case, it's a large, reasonably well-built structure and as such could be put to a number of very useful purposes, with a little imagination.

Tinman...if you want somewhere cheap and characterless to live, my company will be happy to build somewhere for you, given the current government's healthy financial incentives for building sub-standard housing of moribund design.

Personally, I can't imagine why anyone should wish to live in central London, anyway!
