Annoying phone annoyances

My phone keeps ringing, and when I answer it the phone goes dead as if someone was calling and hanging up. After a few such calls I called back the number. Some recorded announcement saying they're some outsourcing firm that has products of interest.. click. Not going to listen any further in case its £10 a minute.

Gits. Anything I can do? I'm already ex directory. IN case anyone else gets a call from 0121 689 6836, don't call back.

No idea I'm afraid, but I had a series of similar calls in the weeks after I got back from Le Mans, all from French numbers. After checking the photos to make sure Balmoral Green hadn't put my number on his car I tried calling one back, got nothing and gave up. Now I think about it, its been a couple of weeks and no heard a peep. Guess they just got fed up, maybe yours will too?

Register your phone with TPS (Telephone Preference Service) - just type it into Google.

This should mean that all soliciting calls from uk companies should cease.

If they continue after registration then I believe you can take action.

I did it years ago and all calls ceased. I also recently did the same with Mail Preference Service and most junk mail has now stopped as well.

we done this too, bloody marvellous we hardly get any soliciting calls now, although we do get the voice message one that asks you to press a number now and again. Guess they cant stop some? internationals i suppose.

This is a call centre with a system set up so it dials lots of numbers then puts you through to an operator as soon as you answer, if no operators are available the system hangs up. Bastard scum obviously don't see the customers on the other end of the line are real people and not just a number.

its also a scam. I noticed one number that costs £1per min ring my phone once.

they work on the basis that you will call the number back and pay them £1 to connect the call and then they hang up.

we got it from the japanese who had operators at one point calling 250,000 numbers per hour!

I did the same but still get mail addressed to the previous tennants who moved out 10 years ago. Great fun threatening to get them prosecuted unless they remove me from their mailing list but next one is getting forward to the Mail Preference Service

if you are a bt customer , go to www.bt .com and you can get them to block the gits by clicking on bt privacy at home.its a new service but works pretty much like the aforementioned tele pref service.

We did this, all junk mail and calls stopped after a couple of weeks.

Wish i could send an exocet down the line when someones talking and eating at the same time,i find that most annoying and really rude.
