Years ago when i was at my parents the Jahovas called at the door, their marketing ploy then was to have a retarded boy reel off the blurb to you.
How sickened and saddened was I? This poor, unfortunate individual had obviously been brainwashed and exploited by the Jo-Wits knowing that most humane people couldn't shut the door on such an individual.

A sad moment.

However tonight, they called with a couple of stunning dolly-birds and I tell you what, you might not see me for a Sunday or two! ;)

:hehe:

ah yes, had that before - you answer the door to a gorgeous blonde and she says "do you have a few minutes to talk, sir". You think "ah, so you DO fancy me"...."yeah sure", you spout.

With that she gives a nod to the guy hiding behind your garage, who bounds on through with his 14reem presentation pack, and trots off to the next house where the other 21stone bearded comic-book-guy-look-alike is standing.

Shut that door quick...!

I answer the door in a pair of undies with a can of Lynx pitching a tent in 'em. That sends them scuttling.

The Sally Army called round a while back. It was two absolutely stunning girls in uniform with a collecting tin. I chased after them shouting, "I've seen the light" but they were only after donations.

I have in the past used the following in response to "Hello, we're Jehovah's Witnesses...."

- Oh yes? Is he in trouble?

- Hello, I'm Jehovah, how are we doing lately?

- Hmmm, I'd heard he picked up an Asbo.

A good friend of mine says, "I'll come to your church if you'll come to mine."

Or... do what my mad Glaswegian mother did about 20 years ago, when she was working nights, trying to sleep during the day and trying to give up smoking at the same time. Tip a basin of cold water on them from the bedroom window. We never saw them again.

To which you reply - 'I'll give you a donation, just give me a few moments!'

Last Saturday I experienced a very disturbing tactic from these people. Two gentleman who I initially thought were double-glazing salespests sauntered up my driveway and said 'Hello. We'd like to talk to you about terrorism.' I then began to think they were police here to advise about being vigilant, looking out for suspicious characters, packages etc. 'Recent events have made people question themselves as to whether there can ever be something better in the world(?) blah..blah'. It was only when they produced a copy of 'Watchtower' that the penny dropped. They were not best pleased when I told them that I found it somewhat sick that they were using the events of the previous Thursday to shift a few more copies of their crummy magazine.....

One lady caught me while working on the car outside. She started on about all the usual stuff and kept talking for about 3-5 mins and then just stopped and said " you're not really interested are you" . I said no and she politely said thanks for my time and went. All very easy.

I began to think I'm odd. I think beyond these people and would engage on the level of "do you really think I'm a Moron?". But I'm too intelligent for that. I really think there are people whose level of thought is little above that of "me". I am not unsympathic of the losses of the relatives of the London Bombers and If I could meet them would absolutley pass on my sympathies. On the other front I would find myself totally unable to engage with the "Isn't it terrible" idiocy of two minutes silence or a city Mourning for a "citizen" who has not been there in decades. I will not stand any interference with the life I and others lead and will stand and fight for it wheather it be so-called terriorists or the so called "mandated" government that has less than a 30% approval from an election. My beliefs are that providing I do not harm others in My actions and those I inhibate these islands with do no harm to myself. my family or others I WILL tolerate their habits, beliefs and practices as they should do mine. I have no evidence a Multi-cultural society exists anywhere in the world. Merely a Society "picks" the bits it likes and discards the rest. There will never be an acceptance of the "caste" system in the UK so why try and bring it here and try to Integrate a "failed" idea. That is just an example but is part of the problem of other "Societies" failures causing problems when bought to another different set of beliefs.

So what exactly is your problem with Jehovah's Witnesses?
I speak as an atheist, though I am just as keen to propel my beliefs onto others as the JW's are.

So what is your problem?

Trouble is, as I assume, you're quite keen to slag off the JW's, yet would you do the same to "normal" Christians?

Here we go, take your pick: is Christianity wrong, or is homosexuality an abomination of God?

And before you retort, no you haven't verbally abused door to door salesmen or such like.

(shame you discriminate between the handicapped and the good looking as well.)

Yes I would the belief set is the same and the JW like scientologits etc are merely a more extreme version pretty much like the Inquistion. Take any belief to an extreme and it is dangerous becuase it takes a sensible root and preverts it!

Last time they called here was Christmas day or very close to it - I was preparing the turkey at the time. Sadly I didn't have my hand up it at the precise time they called - the scene on the doorstep could have been so much more amusing if so...

I'm quite happy for people to be religious, but it does f*** me off something chronic when they try and convince me that I should be too.

A long time ago, a guy I shared a house with in swindon, who worked for the Science & Engineering Research Council at the time, used to keep a genetics text book by the front door ready for a visit from the Jehovahs and would've been quite happy to invite them in for a cup of tea.....

Hell yes. Without a thought.

When you have worked out why you have rejected all other deities but your own, you will also have worked out why I reject yours also.

I think that most peoples issue is with the JW's pitching up on your doorstep and attempting to put their beliefs upon you / taking up your valuable free time etc.

You can opt out of the telemarketing lists so as you dont get hassled on the phone, why then should it be acceptable that anyone, including religious representatives, be able to turn up at your house and try to sell you their 'product' - surely if you were so inclined you would turn up at their church door and have a chat.

I'd be interested to know what 'success rate' they have from going door to door, and what is it they are aiming for anyway, recruitment or profit from the Watchtower mag?

Personally, Im quite polite and just say Im not interested, but it does make me feel awkward despite it being my own front step.

It’s not just the Jehovah's Witnesses I have a problem with. It’s people banging on my door and disturbing my free time trying to sell me something. If I want a new religion, a new conservatory or whatever I’ll ask.
