which vans are RWD?

and does anybody know of any sports car hire companies near nottingham?

my mini has died on me (again!) and I need to get to BB&T so i'm trying to hire something that drives the proper wheels

Pick-up an old transit... they're RWD and with nothing in the back can be pushed into being relatively lively!

Or you could just get an old artic unit... ridiculous torque and they'll merrily smoke the rears!

LDV Sherpa/Convoy, Older Ford Transits,and i think the Peuguot [Cargo?] vans can all be had in RWD. As for smaller vans, probably not....as for sportscar hire, not a flipping clue. sorry, HTH

the sportscar companies are hopeless, mostly ran by numpties 'ooh you're 23? you're too young to drive an MX5!' f@ck off, I drive a hairy chested V8 when I don't have to hire cars!

New Transits are available in RWD for the heavy loads version.
Even the TD115 or whatever it is will merrily slide on a roundabout when empty!

Sounds like you need a PA to take charge of organising your life and ensuring that at least one of your vehicles (with an appropriate driven wheel configuration) is available in working condition for the each social occasion in your diary.

Plan B would involve becoming a partner in a motor dealership with a specialist sportscar section so that there would be something at least vaguely tempting in the stock at any moment you might need it.

Whilst the workshops might be kept busy to the detriment of profitablity I suspect plan B could in fact offer the best overall solution to your problem!

might be pushing it to find one in time, but get your local free ads/autotrader, and i bet there is a few ford P100's. mostly diesel, but there were a couple of petrol models. big load bay, based on a cortina or sierra so RWD, and i reckon you could find one with short tax/mot run it for the weekend, flog it on monday, and still get your money back

VW LT35 is rwd. Rented one a while back, but I put a kitcar chassis in the back of it with plenty of room to spare, so it might be a little on the large side

Older Transit's are fab for learning the art of oversteer. My first job had me using the company Transit at times. Sadly they sold it and bought a RWD Merc van which was no where near as good for sliding about.

Note: the diesel ones are better. The petrol version is no faster; the engine is gutless and has no torque, and the diesel is easier to hammer about in. Either version will slide the back end at the drop of a hat without a load in.

You could also consider the big Vauxhalls, or older Volvos.

Try an Isuzu trooper 3.2 swb diesel, granted it aint a performance vee-hickle, but the torque and turbo lag, allied to poor rear grip in 2wd makes for some serious fun. A proper closet drifting machine.

At one round of the BUKC (british univeristy karting championship) there was a university minibus doing powerslides in the (gravel) carpark at the track. COme the drivers briefing the question "who here races for bournemouth university?" (8 hands go up) "Next time you want to do donuts in the car park try using a minibus that doesn't have your name on the side"

(for those who have raced in club100 this was all delivered by John Vigor (I think)

The long wheel base transit is real wheel drive, it also has traction control and 6gears.

You can even drift them.

I needed something that drives the proper wheels and failing a car, a van was next down the list...tractor unit was 3rd

I ended up buying a herbie lookalike 1972 beetle
