Your fine with all of those things.

Just leave out anything sharp, including nail files, that could (in the eyes of the checkers) be used to harm someone.

Just don't take any bombs or heroine, u should be fine.

I'm off to Thailand on Saturday, just occured to me that I've borrowed a backpack of my mate who smokes ridiculous amounts of weed and this is often whilst out camping. Best check all the pockets eh?

In fact perhaps you want to buy a new one... Unless you want to take the risk of a very large and irritable Thai customs agent with rubber gloves trying to find what set the sniffer dogs off...

And don't do what I did (and this was before even 9/11). When the bloke asked the questions about anyone being able to interfere with your bag (like you'd admit it) I turned to the wife and said "So you've not got a bomb in there?" And the bloke had a sense of humour failure and sent us off to be searched

General piece of advice when checking in - always ask if it is OK to take your pet crocodile on board as hand baggage.

I've been stopped for an offensive shoehorn and had a corkscrew confiscated.
You can still take these though if they are in your checked in luggage

The US are currently very hot on cigarette lighters (no idea why, perhaps so they don't explode?), so take some matches if you're a smoker and venturing to the good ol' US of A.

Mate of mine used to work on check-in at Gatwick and was on the next desk to a couple checking in for honeymoon flight. Apparently the bloke, when asked the usual quesions, said "yeah, I've got a bomb". He was asked to carefully consider his answer, and respond again. "Yeah, I've got a bomb".

Security were called over and didn't see the funny side of his joke, and nor did the airline. I think my mate finished his shift as the woman was bawling her eyes out at having been told the airline would not transport them full stop.

Don't even think of taking it! A sniffer dog would smell it out even if it's empty and you're automatically a suspect and may get a LOT OF HASSLE!!! just one grain of that shit and in Thai you're in deepshit!!!

does puzzle me why people deem it something funny to do!

In alot of airports now there are signs saying something along the lines of..."any mention of the word bomb, serious or otherwise, will be taken as said and you may be refused to fly" (or something like that, but you get the general idea - basically to stop the comedians getting themselves an 'inspection' )

Lets face it if the Thai police were to suspect you, and they will BIG time with a 'smelly' rucksack, you could be held almost indefinately in some grubby Thai prison 'awaiting' trial as a dealer. Who knows, some packets might even magically appear to strengthen the prosecutions case...
We've all seen the horrendous films about caught dealers etc. Don't put yourself at risk.

As someone who flies regularly as a profession, I too would have a sense of humour failure if someone mentioned bombs or drugs. They would be off and looking for alternative transport rather quickly. In fact, if it happened in flight we would find a sh1thole to divert to to drop the idiot off in.

Its not UK law you should be afraid of...
