Lands End. WTF?

Any one else been there and thought that the Lands End experience was a complete pile of poo?
Just spent a few days near Falmouth and being that far west thought it would be rude not to go and have a look at Lands End.
The first thing that happens is that £3 is demanded for the pleasure of parking the car there, and there is no alternative. You are then filtered in through a mini theme park of feeble attractions, all of which have to be paid for before entry, some fairly poor quality catering concessions and the obligatory tat selling gift shop. Once you have passed that, you get to wander off down to the cliffs to gaze westwards across the Atlantic.
I'm not knocking Lands End itself, after all the country has to end somewhere, but the crap that Mr Unsavoury, if indeed he is responsible for it, has imposed on the place. This is supposedly a major tourist attraction but frankly I'm not surprised that people set off for JOG when they get there! :)

Yup you are right. it is a commercial pile of plop. We went down there a couple of years back and just drove past. It is another one of those
must do tours - or rip off tourist/punter

I thought Poldark Mine was another sod all place as well.

Yeah, Lands end is horrible, Cape Cornwall is much better, or Lizard Head, don't get disgruntled. I've been working for about the last 3 years on a book on the SW Coast Path and I tell you what, there are plenty of mind blowing places to see. The usual bits have been buggered up, you've got to explore. If you're down that way, try and find Mill Bay, explore the bits between Sennen and St Ives. It's all there. My best advice is to head north of Bude. That hasn't been buggered up.......yet. Crackington Haven area, Trebarwith, Tregardock, Park head, the list goes on and on. If anyone needs advice on where to go on the SW peninsula for good (surf) scenery, give me a shout!
Despite the best efforts of CCC and the local "business men" at the golf club, most of Cornwall and Devon is still incredibly beautiful. You've just got to know where to go.

Understood LM, and thanks for the info, I've enjoyed many a holiday in the SW in the past. But I feel that Britain is increasingly a rip-off.
I have taken my holidays in Europe by car now since the early '80's and find it cheaper and far more civilised and interesting, Germany in particular.
Britain now, is the: "expensive, low standard, crime ridden option". Add to this the congestion, the "speed cameras" and the Scamerati, the licenced bandit with a piece of land that he calls a car park the "no parking" and clamping brigade waiting around every corner, the car crime......you're lucky to come home in one piece.
Sorry LM, I know that's NOT what you want to hear, but! people vote with their feet and the war upon the motorist here in this country is having an effect. Maybe our MP's and Councillors should think upon this?
P.S. The weather's better in Europe too!

This is true of England, and to some extent Wales, but the Highlands of Scotland remains the area with the best scenery and driving roads in Britain, the car parks are generally free, crime is largely non existant (apart from speeding
