Are there American football fans in the UK?

Or is it like soccer over here? I have season tickets to the Jacksonville Jaguars and the couple with the seats next to moved over here from Liverpool. They have been here five years and are bigger fans than I am.

I used to follow the Chicago Bears a few years back, still watch the occasional game when there's one on the telly and I've got nothing better to do. Oh and it's not that soft 8pack - I've seen some truly nausea inducing injuries and I'm hardly obsessive about watching the game.

I have always kept an eye on how the Patriots are doing since the early eighties, when everyone I knew at school was a '49ers or Bears fan.
It has been nice to see that for once, a team I support, has come good (my other sympathies lie with Spurs and London Irish ).

I used to watch it all the time when it was on Channel 4 (on a Sunday). Moving the coverage to a Monday night killed it for me being a school night and all

Used to work 4pm - 12am so would just get home in time for the Channel 5 coverage. Got quite into it, but then started working 9 - 5. Tried taping the games, but never seemed to be able to get round to watching them though.

Much prefer watching American football over rugby and I played rugby pretty seriously for a few years.

I got into watching when McMahon, The Fridge and Walter Payton were top dogs.... Chicago had an attitude to the game that no other team around could match in the mid-80s. Montana and Rice were the dream team, but personally I found the 49ers a bit sterile.

In 91-92, I took a trip to Colorado and became a massive John Elway fan ... has there ever been a better QB when it comes to 4th quarter comebacks and hail marys on 4th down after the 2 minute warning? The back-to-back Super Bowls were just reward for one of the all-time greats!

I'm still a huge Denver fan, but have also been keen to watch any New England and Green Bay matches too... probably something to do with the QBs playing an Elway type game.


ps. special mention for Randell Cunningham... QB extraordinare, running back, punt kicker etc....

Definitely a fan - I started watching in the mid-80s too, back when Nicky Horne presented it on Ch4.

I even played it for a year at University, and I can promise you (as a rugby player for may years before and since) it's not a soft game. I wouldn't say it's any harder than rugby, but probably equally as physical in a different way.

I must try and get into it better this season, Sky sports extra has alot of coverage, Used to follow it, but have lost touch in the last 5 or so years.

Go Bills

Sky Sports has had fantastic coverage of football over the last few seasons, the last 2 years, they have shown double headers on Sunday nights, and they show every playoff game.
As an ex player in the UK, 15 years playing for Edinburgh Eagles/Edinburgh Phoenix left me with a huge love of the game (and dodgy knees and a bad back).

Been over to Buffalo a few times to see the Bills

I wonder why channel 5 insists on showing American sports at night, who watches it?

Clearly you haven't watched Rugby League. I think the idea of the game is to cripple your opponent, who is not wearing any padding, so as not to ladder their tights.

I used to play American football from age 13 till I was 23, got to busy to play any more. Used to really like watching it but becomes a pain trying to find out when its on etc so kinda lost touch.

used to play Rubgy a lot as well but much prefered American Football, much more happening on the pitch as a player. I admit to watch it feels a bit stop start but much prefered to play.
