Small digital cameras

Hi,

I have around £150 - £200 to spend on a digital camera and I was wondering what he PH opinion would be. I don't know much about them, but I want one that is small, easy to use with good image quality and looks smart. it must fit in my jeans pocket! ALso want one that will last for a few years - so it must be quite robust.

any suggestions? thanks! :)

I'd be looking at the Canon IXUS 50

Very capable little thing (and i do mean 'little')

Great bit of kit, and good looking too 5mgpx 3X optical all you really need & they are robust

Got a Pentax Optio S5i couple of months ago from Staples for £160 (special offer).

It's a brilliant little thing. 5mp 3x optical zoom and it's really really small fits in your pocket very comfortably.

Thats what i've got (although i've poured a pint over it so it now doesn't work!). Just waiting for the insurance company to decide what to do with it! (Repair or replace!)

My friend as the slightly newer version the S5n (£180 from Pixmania) which i've had a play with and the S5z (£205 from pixmania) looks very nice as well.

Yeah just had a look. S5z looks spot on. Can't see how you'd need more camera than that, unless you were semi-serious about photography.

Tiny bit over budget but comes with a 512 memory card. You'll end up buying one anyway.


Can also highly recommend a Epson Photo r200 (or 300) for printing your own piccies.

Bought a Canon Powershot S70 recently that is fabulous - S60 should be within your pricerange if you can still find it - small, versatile (good manual mode), 5mp

The S5z is maybe not as good as the S5i, read both reviews and see what you think.

Like I said, love my S5i. Taken some lovely pics with it.

Casio Exilim EX-S100 - I bought one for my girlfriend and apart from being 3.2Mp vs 5.0 it is a far better camera than my Canon Ixus 500. It is also half the size!! Nice big screen and very fast (esp. compared with the Ixus).

Totally agree! Missing not being able to use it!

I find the Sony DSC-T* (I've a T1) series very very good for a pocket sized camera. A Zeiss lense that doesn't poke out of the case on zoom, 5 MP nd (i think from memory) 3 x optical zoom + some digital zoom.

Actually takes excellent little movies with sound as well.

I've had mine for 2 years now and it's been brilliant.
