Unusual start to the day.. exactly 1 sec after I awoke I felt my left calf going into extreme cramp. Friggin agony it was; can still feel the after effects lunchtime.

What on earth is it? And how do I stop it happening again? More beer before bed? Less beer? Either way I must be having the wrong amount of beer

Lack of salt. I get cramp regularly in my toes, especially when cold. The only way to get rid of it I find is to walk around on tiptoes while its happening.

Stupid toes.

I get cramps frequently. It is the result of a lack of salt which is exacerbated when training a great deal. Also, the hot weather increases the problem. Interesting to hear that eating bananas helps. I have one or two a day and it does not seem to make any odds. I am not a chronic sufferer though.

I keep find that my toes curl up and get cramp. But it's only been recently, and only happens in certain bedroom situations, if you know what I mean...

Trust you! I'm tempted to ask if you've tried bananas, but would be horrified to find that they were the cause

Like has been said, cramp, in otherwise healthy individuals, is usually down to dehydration.

If your having a few pints before bed make sure the last one is a pint of water.

Or you could have peripheral vascular disease and be on the verge of losing your leg?? just a thought......

Since it's in your legs, presumably you insert the banana at the nearest point?
