As someone else mentioned on a similar thread - what about when they start walking into crowded bars / football matches / something televised 
just to make sure they get the full nasty effect...

There is very little that can be done, other than get intelligence gatherers on the ground. Prevention is very difficult. Mind you, the full-body x-ray scanners that are planned for installation in some underground stations may help, as will other detection systems.
The important thing is not to let this kind of thing stop us going about our lives in a normal manner.
Why should it END in a war?
This IS the war. It is not a conventional war against a nation. It is a guerilla/intelligence war which may last decades, I'm afraid.
The one good aspect of this is that the British security forces are the world experts in dealing with this type of war (with maybe the Israelis) due to the 30 year struggle in Northern Ireland.

I was pondering this earlier... I'm not racist in any way before we start ok?
If people want to settle in this country with different beliefs or religions, then they should fit with society. I have Hindu friends whose parents still lock their sisters in the back bedroom FFS and make the wife walk several paces behind the man.
I remember going to a wedding a few years ago where a Muslim guy married a Hindu girl. The families were so bigoted they had to have three weddings. One Hindu one where the groom wasn't present. One Muslim one in a Mosque, where she wasn't allowed along with all the women. And a registry office to make it legal... where none of the family turned up.
When we got to the reception, they had to have seperate rooms and meals etc.
Sorry but its pathetic, If you want to live in our country with our people and get the best from democratic society... live by our rules.
I wouldn't order a big juicy steak in front of a Hindu... I wouldn't try and take a Muslim for a drink... but why not? Its because I've been brought up in balanced society and I can see both sides of the coin.
Sadly, some of these people cannot, because they have been manipulated all their life.
Want to live here, live by our rules. Don't want to fit in? fine... leave. Lets face it, thats a choice I would have to make if I moved to another country.
I can't really get my feelings across in a balanced way, so I'll finish by saying that IMO religion should be banned. We should rely on a duty of care to our fellow man... not wage war because of beliefs.

Spot on! Makes perfect sense to me.
Problem is, this kind of attitude is seen as racist and politically incorrect by the liberal softies that run the country, and run many areas of the media. They don't realise it's not racist, its common sense and practical.
IMHO religion served the purpose of controlling the masses, bringing a sense of morality into the population that followed the religious rules. This is obviously no longer the case, and so in this era of scientific enlightenment (speaking relatively - I'm not dissing anyone's religious beliefs or otherwise) you would think that some people would use a little more common sense.
I fear for the future, and I would seriously have to consider whether I want to help bring a child into a world like this.

I put precisely this point to an Israeli friend of mine (who is btw a very moderate guy). His point of view was that in the overwhelming majority of cases in his country, the attacks were made on the transport network; This is because transportation is one of the few things that we cannot do without day to day. It is thought that the training camps for the bombers teach this.

The problem for us now is that these individuals are "home grown" terrorists. There is no alternative place to send them. It will only be solved by getting into their networks, understanding their way of thinking and defusing the "injustices" that they feel are driving their motivation.
I also think that there is a "generational" aspect to terrorist activities. These guys are second or third generation "British Born" Moslems. They have never lived in an Islamic country. They probably have a rose tinted view of what Islam is all about. In many ways they remind me of the 2nd or third genration of Irish-Americans who lent financial and other support to Irish Nationalists.
In 20/30 years time, those radical Moslems who are still around (i.e. not blown themselves up or been killed in action) will have grown up and matured and will be generally tired of fighting. Only then will things calm down. I am pretty sure that is the main reason why the "troubles" in Northern Ireland have decreased in recent years.
