I saw several on an auction site (not Ebay) recently, about £5K each.

I was thinking they'd be a good investment for starting a small hire business...

Need some work doing at the field around the stables, that need only a small machine, but looking at hire charges, it might make more sense to buy an old one, and see a 'bit' of a return by doing other peoples trenching etc, over the winter.
A five ton machine would be better, work wise, but then its transport again, which means relying on someones good nature

You are cheaper buying an old JCB as they fetch less money than a mini. Expect to pay £1000 for one that works and you will need to repack glands etc. A Worn mini will set you back a few thousand. I'm borrowing one that is worth about £5k and it works fine but is worn.

Think BIG then you can always sell the JCB afterwards for what you paid for it.

Have been wading through google results on the JCB hunt, I'm not expecting a win there though.
I think i'll spend the day in Lincs, as every house over that way, seems to boast an old rusting one in the gardens where the gnomes should be
