The Island...

Just seen 'The Island'. Not a bad flick at all. Its a wee bit like THX 1138, and Logans Run in the beginning, but it goes on after they escape their little imprisonment. It does get the usual Hollywood overzealous cgi routine, but on the whole, its a pretty damn good film. After watching War of the Worlds, and how they turned an absolute classic into a bit of a drawn out crudfest, I was pleasently surprised. I'd reccommend it, especially as it has Scarlet in!!

Anyway... They have some cars in it called Magnums, and they have quite a few here, where I live, and I must say, for a yank car, they are damned nice! I've never seen an 'estate car' with such presence before!

Also have a Caddillac Cein supercar, which is a bit ugly, has some very nice hp figures!

The top car looks similiar to a BMW 1 series from the back, except for the huge wheels.

More like a Vauxhall Signum with a Dodge Ram front end. Yuk!

Isnt a magnum a 300c by another name? It looks very similar in basic shape.

It's also good to see that there are two differnet brands of car from different groups (DC and GM) in the same movie, a welcome break from a lot of product placement.

How bizarre...all the other pics and reviews of it I've seen have it called Cien, not Cein. Where did the photo originate?

Yep, the Magnum is a essentially a 300C 'Touring' with a 5.7 hemi, and has the option of AWD.
Discussions ongoing on whether it's coming to the UK.

Back to the film.....I saw WotW yesterday, what a pile of poo. Tom Cruise is utterly unbelieveable as the father, the daughter I wanted to strangle and the ending was just rubbish.
All the aliens are killing everyone, then they all fall down dead.......what bollox.

Saw the trailer for The Island and it does look good....also like the look of the new Herbie Full Throttle movie........

That's pretty much how it happened in the book and the original film - they died from bacterial infection. Quite advanced for c1900!

In reply... No idea if it is a cein, or a cien. This thing is NOTHING like a signum! These thigs are really quite large. Looks like a tank. See one in te flesh, and I'm sure you would change that opinion. I'm no fan of US cars, but the Magnum, (300 hemi engine, yup), is fantastic to look at! Does come awd, and with more power than you could throw a stick at!
War of the worlds does end abruptly in the book, and the 5o's version. It was germs that killed them in the end, so yup, the new version is correct on that score, they just ruined the rest of the movie.
