The emotional roller coaster of doing deals!
Discussion
Monday the 25th of July 10am - the phone on my desk was silent. I waited. A cup of tea was made and then consumed. I killed a little time on PH. All the while the phone was deafening in its silence. I read the paper – the rustling of which was noisy in comparison to the 'dead' phone. I opened my mail. I even read the Readers Digest stuff - scratching off the prize numbers with a 10p piece. I’d won and needed to call a number to claim my prize. No chance. The phone rings! It’s a colleague asking if I’ve heard. “No, get off the line”, I exclaim! Another cup of tea. A biscuit, a ginger-nut to be precise. I surf the web “BBC News”, “CNN”, “Virgin Atlantic”, “Autotrader”. The phone rings. I let it ring for a few seconds so as not to expose my anticipation. “We’re accepting the deal”, I’m told. “Excellent”, I reply. “My people will draw up the Heads”, I pronounce. Phone goes back down. I punch the air and collapse in a heap.
My email to a colleague simply says: “They’ve agreed the deal, but there’s still a hundred and one things that could scupper it”.
Tomorrow problem number one will need to be resolved. In eight weeks it will be problem 100 that needs sorting – assuming, of course, the vendor hasn’t killed himself because of the stress!

Why do I have visions of srebbe64 sitting in an office in a trenchcoat and Trilby, smoking cigarettes and drinking whisky?
"I knew thish dame was goin' to be trouble the moment I clapped eysh on her". (Edit: That's meant to be a Bogart / Marlow style drawl rather than druken ramblings.)

Grrr.
I have a different philosophy, I celebrate when I see the hard cash. Until someone shows the money I'm not happy regardless of what the contract or what anyone says to me.
I hate waiting. I want to get onto the next thing, however, there is the small issue of biting off more than you can chew hence the constant drumming of fingers on my desk at the moment for my current two irons in the fire.
Anyway, well done.
Back to drumming the desk with my fingers.
