...Colds?

I know that sounds like a stupid question, but I'm serious.

My dog seems to be doing a lot of coughing and sneezing just recently and I noticed yesterday that his nose was dripping.

I haven't had him long, about a month. As far as I know all his boosters etc are up to date. I'm taking him to get a microchip at the end of the week so i could ask the vet then.

Any ideas anyone?

They can get pretty much anything that you can. And a few they keep for themselves.

I would assume long walks along the beach are out for a while. he's also got a thing for paddling about the stream, tends to think he needs to stand right beside me and shake

Yup, one of our dogs has got a "cold" at the moment. Once we stopped killing ourselves laughing at him because he looked so funny everytime he sneezed, he went to the vet and she reckoned he was allergic to something. Got some meds and he seems to be on the mend now.

Pop him in bed with a hot water bottle, some calpol, and away you go.

But seriously, does the vet need to see him or is there a 'standard' way of ridding colds from dogs?

Depends on the severity really. I wouldn't take him to the vets if he doesn't have any respiratory problems. If it's sneezing and snottsville then keep obs on him for a bit.

I'm not a vet, but have first hand knowledge of snotty dogs.

What type of dog is he?

Its the respiratory bit I'm worried about.

Without being too boring, he's had a problem called larinsomething paralysis, basically earlier this year he had an op to keep some kind of flap open so he could breath. He normally has a rasp when he's breathing and his bark is quite muffled, not getting the full lung power behind it. He seems to be a bit worse inside, he's ok when he's outside but doesn't have as much energy. He's breathing ok, a little short on breath but nothing particularly out of the ordinary.

He's a 7yo Alsation.

With that history, I think I would take him to the vet to make sure.
