You can have a great night out anywhere, its all to do with the people you are with.
This is proved by the fact that I've had some top nights out in Crewe. If you've ever been there for a night out, you'll know that its friends that count, not where you are.
Agree with that but let's say you're with all your best mates......
The best night out in the UK is Newcastle......

As Racegirl says, Nottingham is a good night. Went for a stag do 2 months ago.
Manchester can be really good too, I spend many evenings rolling between pubs and clubs.

Another vote for Nottingham (had three amazing years at uni up there).
I agree that recently it had turned into a bit of a Stag/Hen capital which is a shame - still, if you avoid all of the obvious places (Yates, Ritzy's, Ocean, The Works etc..) you'll not see a comedy breast, veil or L-plate in sight.

since this is a thread where everyone quotes their opinion, i'll quote mine and say 'that's utter bollocks' newcastle is a dump except for very select areas - providing you know where to go and even then vastly pales in comparison to glasgow or london or manchester

Get yourself a Countach LP400 and tow a decent caravan up to Scotland.
Pitch up, somewhere on the road to Inverurie and try to imagine that it's a progressive version of 1851 with all the Imperial joys that such a parallel reality might entail.
Inhale a great dollop of highland air, crack open a suitably chilled bottle of Bierre d'Alscace and relax.
