International Driving Licences

Tried to hire a car in the middle east the other day and was told my UK photocard licence was no good and I needed an international licence. Can't find owt on the dvla site about them.

Was the hire company mistaken or can someone point me in the right direction.

A quick google revealed both RAC and Green Flag pages detailing how to get an International Driving Permit.

RAC took 2 months to send one out to me, even though i paid for the "fast" service.

Luckily, i didn't need it.

You can get them from some Post Offices as well.

I got one ages ago, can't remember where I was going, from the post office. I think it was printed by the AA and basically just had a brief explanation of the driving licence in umpteen different languages. Doesn't have any personal details as I remember. So wouldn't know why they would need it. Always take the paper bit when renting a vehicle here or abroad.
