while browsing the archives (ok shut it, i'm bored!) I found a link to this site and I have come to the conclusion that the author has wayyy too much time on his hands!

has anyone seen this before? and if so, any comments to make about it? at first glance I assumed it was where love machine got all his relationship advice/theories from :D

Have you ever seen a guy that was not particularly attractive, rich or muscled yet was with a lovely woman?

Ladder theory tells us that the purpose of life is to move up the ladder. When their relationship ends, he will probably never be able to get another woman as good as the one he is with right now -- the rest of his life he'll likely be striving in vain. In effect, he's doomed the whole rest of his life to meaninglessness unless he marries this girl. This of course is just trading one type of doom for another.

at the last sentence

Very good Tom but I do wonder what you were searching for when you stumbled across this.

there's a whole host more of this tripe if you delve around a bit! I found it while trawling the PH archives and resisting the temptation to resurrect ancient threads... meanwhile i'm just sitting here at work killing time until 9pm when my mates get back and I can go out!

If you like that you should read

'How to date young women (for men over 35)'

by

R.Don Steele (real name )

Full of handy tips for, well, randy old gits *cough cough ahem*

And the ladder theory is very convincing.

Shallower than a saharan puddle!!!

This "ladder" thing seems to be measuring people on looks or money or social/career success. What crap. Then again, if people fall for it and are abused, then more fool them.

As for the author...sounds like he's got emotionally (but not physically) f'cked over by a few women and it's, shall we say, tainted his views. Sad, really.

On the other hand, did you see that BBC One program a couple of weeks ago - Secrets of the Sexes? It covered what people found attractive - men were basically very superficial, and mainly motivated by looks. Women, on the other hand, looked for someone who could "provide" for them (whether they realised it or not). One very, ah, "average" looking guy was rated by random women, first dressed in his usual gear, then in a sharp suit picked out by a stylist.

Lo and behold, in the suit the women all guessed that he earned a good £10k more than when dressed in t-shirt and jeans, and they all found him more attractive...

Just a thought.

cuddle bitch(n) - a guy who never gets to sleep with a girl but gets to have intimate moments with her like cuddling, spooning, or otherwise being affectionate. Usually this will occur in private. She probably considers him a really sweet guy, which is the kiss of death.

First off, cuddle bitches are bad, bad things to be. Maybe the worst thing to be. I mean, being an Intellectual Whore is bad, but being an Intellectual Whore who has to endure blue-balls is bordering on criminal

quality!

I think the ladder system is just logic...I mean of course you're with someone until you find someone better! it's just that mostly when we commit to people we feel we won't find anyone better, and you discover things about the person that you treasure which makes them all over a better bet than risking it...unless (at the risk of repeating myself) you do meet someone who seems to have all these attributes - and more! then you leave person number one for person number two...and so it goes on

and the bit about partners taking back cheating partners because they feel they won't get any better, that they snared the current one by luck or whatever, is I think true to an extent..perhaps more to do with self esteem levels I imagine but still, there certainly are cases of men/women who stay with a partner because even though they are unfaithful they may still overall be perceived as 'a bit of a catch' - the girl who went out with jimmy hendrix springs to mind in this particular situation - anyone else read about it in the sunday times just gone?

If this is true, Tom, you may be going about it the wrong way

Treating people like they're last year's model of telly/ car/ mobile phone won't do you any favours in the long run...

I was wondering the same.. Unfortunately the work server has logged an attempt to a dodgy website so I'll have to follow the link at home later on..

not saying at all that I handle relationships like that at all, just idly wondering whether the ladder system may be similar to real life, being as most of the stuff on that site was bollocks

I must be honest with you, I sort of (and I suspect most other shallow guys/gals do also) run a ladder system...certain people i'd like to...erm...sleep with more than others and so it follows that the one you'd most like to sleep with is higher up your list than the other... hmm. this is very difficult to try to explain without coming across as a berk and now i'm going to get flamed by all the ladies

As a means of interpreting human relationships its quite amusing and insightful, I thought - in its own way.

Not wholly inaccurate either - whilst being complete and utter (amusing) tosh.

Well, from the perspective of someone who has not read anything on the site thats linked I think everyone runs a ladder system of some type, ladies too. Just as some guys will go for the blonde haired, blue eyed, big breasted brassey bimbo, (so the shorter, less in your face brunette mate gets pissed off with being overlooked), some girls will go for the tall, dark haired rower type, (rather than the shorter, mousey blonde bespectacled type). Just a different set of criteria that are being worked on..

Not at all old chap, but I do suspect you've just gone a few rungs down some of their lists

If I recall the first time this had an outing for discussion on PH, I believe the exponent was CarZee. I wonder if your 'idle surfing' was in fact in pursuit of the desire to be like him, after his recent renaissance?

Erm.. Not exactly. I think I'll follow the link and come back with a reasoned opinion..

OTOH, this is the internet afterall.. Maybe I'm looking into this just a little too deeply..
