Will a uk shaver plug fit directly into a french mains socket?

Quick answer: No.
Slightly longer answer: You need a UK mains adapter (basically a plug with 2 holes in the back) to plug into your French adapter.
They do fit with some persuasion. But the last time I did it, the plug got stuck. So not advisable.
