One day in Monaco, what to do ?

I'll be in Monaco next Sunday, but for just one day. I've always wanted to go there, but some people have said it's pretty boring - other than on the GP weekend.

So, has anyone been there and what should the wife and I do for our 10 hours at the principality? Any suggestions would be most welcome!

Borrow an F1 car.

Seriously, you gotta walk the circuit. You'll be amazed at the speeds that they reach, given the layout.

See if you can get a cheese sanwich for less than £5.

Work out how many times your house would fit into the biggest boat in the marina.

Pop into the Casino.

Enjoy.

sightsee for a bit, then pop down to the monte-carlo beachclub for lunch and a bit of sunbathing. Shame you arent there for the night, I could give you a whole world of suggestions!

If you are into driving fun roads head up to Lantosque via l'Escarene. Head towards Col De Braus. Take a tiny left signposted as the D54. At the end of the D54 go right onto the D21. At the next junction go left, adn start heading for Lantosque.

There are some nice French bars in Lantosque and its a very pretty place.

After Lantosque head north and find the first right turn to Col De Turini. Then follow the signs for Sospel and then back to Monaco.

Takes about 4 hours to drive it but it is a fantastic drive. Even in a 1.1 litre hire car Whilst you are sawing away on the switchbacks the scenery is pretty nice so that should keep the lady occupied.

The Monte Calro WRC stages start just north of l'Escarene and that route puts you through most of the stages they do in the 3 days on the real event.

Look for some of those cheap vehicles that lurk round the harbour somewhere!

Definitely walk the circuit - and have a wander up to the palace. I'd also recommend having a look at Prince Alberts car collection (it's not massive so won't take too long but there are some pretty impressive models in there).

Monaco is rubbish. Go see Casino Square, have a look at the shopping precinct near Ras Cas, then drive/train over to Menton, which is much nicer.

Seriously, Monaco sucks.

I wouldn't want to spend any more than a day in Monaco, but it's a good day trip IMHO.

I'd start by grabbing a coffee in Casino square (make it last too, even an espresso's not cheap!) and watch the Ferraris, Astons etc roll by while enjoying the local 'wildlife'

Then wander the GP circuit, aiming to finish near the Swimming Pool. There are a few decent bars/cafes on that section for lunch.

Walk into the upper part of Monaco in the afternoon and take in the palace and PA's car collection. If you leave the palace area (sorry, can't remember what it's called) via the back way then you walk down overlooking parts of the harbour and can oggle all the boats there.

When I was there last, Red Bull were hosting a cliff diving tournament, which helped kill some time (impressive stuff).

Then jump in a car and drive the coastal road to San Remo for a quality dinner.
