£200 to Oxfam on top of my regular monthly contribution.
I was on holiday in Fuerteventura in Jan, when we invaded by locusts from N. Africa. At the time I thought that must be bad news, but the only reports on UK television were about inconvenienced tourists in the Canaries. The truth was much worse and ignored or surpressed until we got the babies dying in the mother's arms pictures again.
Very poor show all round.
Come on PH-er's we have all got a few quid to spare - give something to the multi-charity fund raising for West Africa that began today!

I'm thinking it was a misspelling of the country name rather than a misspelling of the 'N' word.

We give money, nothing changes in Africa, we need to give more money to keep these children alive. Until there is major regime change in these countries, we are throwing good money after bad and not helping anyone.
All the time corrupt governments can cream off a nice slice of monetary aid for their latest palace, yacht, jet etc, they will have no insetive to help their own people.
Giving aid to these countries helps nobody. Giving aid via Oxfam helps even less...
It was very clear from the documentry last night that plenty of food is actualy available, the people just cannot afford to buy it because the price has been inflated due to drought and locust activity. Sending money is not the answer, that will only lead to further profiteering. Strangly such situations did not occur before the African states were given independance.

It's a dreadful situation indeed, but giving to this DEC is only handing your money over to a bunch of gravy train riding self-righteous types who think that doing something useless and wasting resources is better than doing nothing at all and wasting no resource.
Anyway, the last time I heard of DEC, they'd been taken over by Compaq who then got eaten by Hewlett Packard. If they couldn't run a modest mini-computer concern, I doubt they can deliver relief to the bleakest parts of the world.
