Logo designer needed

If things go according to plan, my business partner and I will open our first computer shop in early 2006.

There is a local sign maker & printer who we will use to kit us and the shop out, but they do not provide any graphic design options, so we need to find one.

We're looking for someone to design us a logo for use throughout the shop, products and paperwork, and help on deciding a colour scheme for the shop and website.

Can anyone recommend a person/company who they have dealth with?

As a sales and marketing professional ( ie glorified sales rep) who has launched lots of products and a few companies, I find that the best and cheapest way to come up with a good and original image/ logo is to get the local design students involved.

Set up a project with the local design college, invite lots of arty students with design ideas into a pub for a brainstorming session and put a reasonable sum behind the bar to aid creativity. Provide lots of paper, post it notes, a few flip charts and let the ideas flow.

Result, original ideas and designs, dirt cheap if not free, and you let design students practise on your image before they go out into the real world and let middle men like me charge fortunes for their work.

Remember to get each contributor to sign their work and agree a flat fee payment for the winning design with the college before starting the process.

Go for a design that's easily copied, or the designer will be able to hold it hostage and restrict your access to other printers.

Avoid full colour for the same reason.

More than that, make sure you own the design, not the designer.

Make sure you get the original (electronic) artwork, not just the printed/finished items.

We grant all clients full ownership of designs, source files etc, and help them knock up stationary whilst we are at it.

Design is about looking in the future and being pragmatic . . . let students make your designs I doubt if they have the experience to look further than a 'beautifull design' . . . feel free to mail me for comment on the logo: for free, and I'm dutch ffs.

I want to be a car designer in the future. I could have a go at logo design if you get desperate. I'm quite good at logos.
