reminds me of many things, particularly when I played the album to death in the car on a road trip through east yorkshire in april 2003, driving fast, etc...it's such a powerful song to me that it's reckoned by my friends to be the song that turned me in to the reckless nutter that I am now..I didn't use to be like this!
but when I hear that tune, oh my - rage descends along with self loathing and reckless arrogance, I turn in to a complete twat

Ooh, I've got so many that I've actually made compilation CDs of my life's soundtrack - there are four and I'm currently compiling my 'university years' soundtrack. Here's a few choice cuts, apologies for too much personal detail (I'm on the ol' vino):
Editors - All Sparks
They played our gradball, which coincided with meeting someone again who I'd really messed things up with a month previously (tried to turn friendship into something more - didn't work). The repetition of 'all sparks will burn out in the end' really hit me.
Razorlight - Somewhere Else
This was the soundtrack to my last week at uni. Seemed to capture that 'go for your life' feeling I had, but it's tinged with a certain melancholy. The line 'no-one could catch the sparks from your heels as you passed them by' almost brings tears to my eyes.
Queen - Princes Of The Universe
Listened to it just before taking my driving test. Features the line 'Gonna pass the test first time'. It worked.
New Order - 1963
I bought their Best Of the first time I went to visit my best mate up in Durham. It reminds me of being really chilled out and having a great time, but it's actually quite a dark song, which is almost appropriate as it also reminds me of his girlfriend of the time, who really messed him about.
Alice Cooper - Poison
My ex's (from a few years back) favourite song. First met her shortly after putting it on the jukebox in her college bar. Not the most romantic of songs (unless you're into S&M or something), but it strikes a chord.
Led Zeppelin - Immigrant Song
Me and a mate always used to listen to this before we went out and got trashed at the local rock club. Then he learnt the music, I learnt the words, and we used to play it (then go out and get trashed). When Jack Black's screaming along to it in School Of Rock he reminds me of myself.
Vangelis - Rachel's Song (from Blade Runner OST)
Used to listen to the Blade Runner soundtrack a lot back in my 6th Form College days, on autumn nights, during rainstorms, with the curtains open. Rachel's Song is massively haunting and beautiful.
The Mission - Love Me To Death
It's about sex, but probably the only rock song I know that doesn't cheapen or trivialise it, but turns it into something beautiful and powerful. It's musical erotica.
Metallica - For Whom The Bell Tolls
After hearing this song for the first time, I suddenly felt the need to drive over to my old high school in a nitro'd drag-spec Corvette Stingray and torch the place (I didn't, but...). My 'teenage angst' album, but a good'un.
Rick Springfield - Motel Eyes
Reminds me of my embarrassing brazenness during my first year at uni: 'She said she'd had a little much to drink/she didn't usually do this'. I felt cool, but probably came across as cheesier than a bucket of camembert. Still, who cares.
The Smiths - There Is A Light That Never Goes Out
Reminds me of indie nights. I know it's depressing but I love that flute/synth line. Introduced me to a new appreciation of music (even if The Smiths were never my favourites themselves)
The Cure - Last Dance
Moving. It's about getting older, something I've realised I'm doing recently. Bittersweet.
Ozzy Osbourne - No More Tears
Reminds me of tearing around Manchester at night in my mate's RS Turbo, glaring at fashionistas with this blaring out of the stereo. Daft I suppose, but we loved it.
Matt Monro - On Days Like These
We (the karting club) listened to this whilst driving through the French countryside. One day we'll do it in classic supercars. Questi giorni quando vienee il belle solee. Perfect.
