I know, it's a numpty question, but I don't eat spuds.

I have half an hour to cook some jacket spuds. Equipment available is a microwave and an oven that will be on at gas mark 6 while I cook something else.

What do I do?

Spuds are medium size and will end up filled with beans (I can manage them) and cheese.

Microwave for about 10 minutes (or until spuds just soft to the squeeze, then pop in the oven for the rest of the time (top shelf for maximum crispiness)

Damn! Beaten to it by a matter of minutes.

Yep - 10mins in the microwave (wrapped in kitchen towel to absorb the water driven off) and then into the oven (after removing the kitchen towel, obviously)

My half Italian wifey puts them in the oven for 40 minutes with a tea spoon pushed into the middle to cook them through slowly. She also rubs Olive oil into the (spuds) skin and rubs rock salt into the skin. Hmmm, lovely. Buy a quality baking spud to start with too.

You buy loo roll, don't you? Throw in a packet of kitchen roll whilst you're at it. Useful for all sorts of things.

The kitchen roll / towel thing during the microwave phase is my own invention. Maybe I'm just weird and it's optional.

I've never done the kitchen roll thing, largely because the last kitchen roll was used up several months ago during a bog roll famine. I always think the skin must get crispier if it's open to the air in the oven.

Our microwave has a setting for spuds (think it has an oven in it or something?

Insert spud, press spud button (I think it then weighs it) and hey presto. A baked spud.

Takes about 15-20 minutes according to spud weight.
