Grrr Post Office

I'm going to moan today. I'm in a moaning mood.
This afternoon i want to send a couple of big envelopes that contain tshirts for my event.
But of course I can't. Why i hear you say? Is it because I've run out of tshirts - no such luck there. Is it because i've run out of envelopes - nope, a discovery last week that Viking Direct supply big envelopes for £12 for a box of 50 which i felt was much better value than the previous pack of 5 for £4.
Or could it be that the wretched Post Office is closed on a Wednesday afternoon.
Apparently - people don't send letters on a Wednesday afternoon. Its a letter free day, that allows us to take a break from junk mail on Thursday morning. But no, we still get junk mail on a Thursday morning - its just a mechanism to annoy the hell out of the normal punter who has a parcel to send.
Of course my punters will understand that theuir parcel will be delayed. They will think "shouldn't of put the order in on a Wednesday afternoon cause they won't be able to post it due to it being a Post Office free afternoon".
And what do these people do on a Wednesday afternoon? Does the whole of Royal Mail pack up and have a secret garden party with Pims. They probably look down at the streets below the premises and chortle "haha look at that person standing outside out office wanting to post a parcel....". They probably get great amusement at not posting things on a Wednesday.
But I digress, does the Wednesday afternoon nap the Postmaster at our Post Office extend all the way through the orgnisation.
I would say it probably doesn't. Not Wednesday afternoon after all, but probably most afternoons. In fact, if my post to my house hasn't arrived by midday - it wont arrive at all that afternoon.
Do you know why? Postmen don't work in the afternoon. Any afternoon. If the letter isn't with you by 1159am exactly - you are boogered until the lottery tomorrow morning. The postman could be lying in a pool of blood three houses up from your house with your post blowing down the road - but don't worry, they'll pick it all up tomorrow morning.
And the reason the postman is lying in a pool of his own blood - probably cause a naighbbour removed the safety catch of his firearm hes been keeping and gunned the son of a beetch down. You see it was probably 1159am as the postman was wlaking down his path. The Postman stopped and looked at his watch. It was just going 12, so he turned on his heel. And tried to walk away. The neighbour explodes and confronts the postman. Rather than wait for the excuse BANG.
So anyway, Wednesday afternoon for sending stuff is a bad afternoon. Its a Post Free afternoon. Maybe we've been taking lessons from the workshy surrender monkeys across the channel "monsieur itz mercriday afternoon - ow can we work?"
And while I'm ranting - why the fuck is the Post Office shut at lunchtimes? Do we stop sending letters at lunchtime? Is lunch time a postage free zone? Let me tell you about lunchtimes at the Post Office - there are no old grannies in sight - they have all been dealt with picking up their cash and recounting their life story to the clerk yet again.
There should be a queue for people who are actually in a hurry. There should be a queue marked "For persons who are in no particular hurry" and a second queue marked "For people who want to be served in the immediate future - maybe even today - if we don't close for lunch by the time you reach the till"
And heres another thing - get the bloody form before you go to the Post Office. Be prepared and fill it out somewhere else. Like at the back of the queue. Especially if its a time consuming E111 that requires passport details and tricky questions like "Your name". Yes Mr Good - I did overhear that you had misfilled out the bloody form. So please - join the queue for people with "no brain".

I always think that there should be 2 queues at the post office, 1 for those who are collecting money (90%) and the other for those who are paying money for whatever shite service you have to waste your life queuing for.

Got my road tax from a dodgy post office in ardwick, manchester. Got some very strange looks from the local chavs waiting for their hand outs, they were shocked that anyone would be so gullible as to pay any form of tax... Stood in long queue actively wishing I had a machine gun, or one of those death rays off Mars Attacks....
Dont get me started on post offices. They should sort their act out, now more and more of us ebay generation are having to use their (cough) 'services'. My local one, also, is closed more often that its open, so I drive a bit further knowing that one's at least likely to be open.

Whether or not to open on a Wednesday afternoon is something decided by individual Post Offices.
If yours doesn't then find your next nearest one that does.

the fourth post office that might be open is in the middle of a "high street re-development" where they have removed all the parking.

Actually, when I was a lad in the 70's, most shops had half-day closing on a Wednesday so I guess it is probably a legacy from that.
