Home Cinema EMP-TW10???

I am thinking of venturing into the world of home cinema.

I am not going to go straight to the top of the range stuff, but rather buy some used equipment. My work has some good projectors, Epson EMP-TW10, and my friend has just upgraded to Bose so is selling his Sony 5.1 sound system for peanuts.

Has any one had any experience of the projector that I want to get? The IT people at work think they are great and very very good value.

I just wondered what the PH collective thought!

The Epson is an LCD projector. Great for beaming you computer screen onto a wall in a conference room (which is why your IT guys like them) but I think you’d be better off with a DLP projector for home cinema. In Focus do good DLP projectors for the same price as the Epson you are looking at. Take a look at the X1A.

I would say if the price is right, go for it and see how you like the projector option, then if you do go for a better DLP or CRT projector when you get hooked.

Just remember you'll be wanting that motorised 8 foot wide projection screen to go with it

Got to say an LCD projector isn't as crisp you'd want it to be, there is a lot of pixelation and rapid movement can be very "blurry". Haven't seen a DLP to compare with, but if its reckoned to be better, then go for one of those.

Can you still get those big three lamp thingies that used to be in pubs/clubs etc (or a smaller domestic version)??

Yup, they're CRT projectors and they are the dogs danglies. Just a warning about DLP though, watch one for longer than half an hour. Some people experience bad headaches watching them, it's never happened to me but I've friends who claim this is true.
