Pops and bangs (engines)

Does anyone know if there are any other engines (other than the cerbera AJP V8) which pops and bang massively?

I think it's a symptom of over-fueling or inefficiency in some manner. sounds good though.

It isn't faulty, just is in a good state of tune I think. Rather quick too. Lots of torque steer too. Good cheap runabout fun

The MR2 does it quite a lot.

When I was running it without a cat it did it LOADS.

Yup, the 4 branch manifold in my Scirocco GTS had a crack in it, allowing just enough air in to ignite the unburned fuel in my exhaust when I lifted off. The thunderflash-loud explosion was accompanied by a decent exhaust flame, and was excellent for use against tailgaters...

My Spitfire 1500 does.... A lot

I had a 4 litre Jeep which had a Powerflow exhaust.

I knocked the guts out of the catalyst after it started rattling.

The pops and bangs were incredible, especially if you were on the overrun down a steep hill and just lightly feathered the throttle.

Leaving the overrun aside, it was an awesome sounding engine. It certainly sounded better than my Griffith, which was strangled by catalysts.

One of the most surprisingly wild sounding motors was a humble 1275 A Series, with a flowed head, Piper 270 cam and a Maniflow LCB with a single box exhaust. It would pop and bang on the overrun and would absolutely howl through the gears.

It made a far more intoxicating noise than my Esprit ever did.

Mind you, next door's dog can fart more tunefully than my old Lotus.
