ebay and VAT???

I want to buy someting, new, from ebay. I am being told that I will have to add 17.5vat to the final price, is that right? I mean isnt the final bidding price THE FINAL BIDDING PRICE???

Otherwise it could get a bit like Ryanair's extra charges!

If the trader is VAT registered he will pay VAT but should say that it will be added in his description (if hes not paying out of the final price). However if the goods are second hand the trader should use one of the schemes and will only pay VAT on his margin. If he hasnt said that the final price is plus VAT then I would refuse to pay it.

Edited to say that if you choose to pay you should insist on a VAT receipt, giving his VAT number, to ensure that he is not a scammer.

The winning bid, plus any postage and insurance, is all you have to pay.

He/she cannot add 17.5% to the final price, it is totally against Ebay rules.
