My girlfriends 6 year old nephew has just had his ear pierced, and is currently wearning a diamond stud.

Not cool, zero respect to her brother the father, tacky, and out of character as far as the family goes.

Bottom line, its just :rolleyes:

Laying it on thick now, anyone who doesnt share the same feelings would is also a little :rolleyes: imho...

I've seen pictures of baby girls with their ears pierced already. It's happened since I was a kid. I still think it's a bizarre practice. I did get my ears pierced as an adult, since those clip earrings are a nuisance, but it doesn't seem quite right at such a young age, especially since they're too young to judge and make reasonable decisions about trends for themselves. Thank God there's an age restriction for tattoos, still (isn't there?), or else it would be that next as apparently the parents don't say no to him.

well, they meant well. I see the christening/baptism thing (whichever your religion calls it) as a promise by the parents to raise the child to be decent. At least it has less to do with looking cool. (at least, for them, I hope it did)

I have a 19 month old little girl who will not be getting her ears peirced until she is at least 16, I've already banned family members from taking her to get it done when she's older. It just looks tacky ... even more so in the current chav-state!

Personally I dislike pierced ears on children. I had mine done when I was 14. Sadly I disgraced myself later that yera by adding 4 more but at least I choose to do it.

Kids with piercings - horrendous.

I struggle with the concept of peircings at the best of times. Personally I think that if you are supposed to have holes in your ears/other parts of your anatomy then you should have been born with them.


I never wanted my ears pierced as a teenager, and they still remain intact now, but jewellery on kids is just frightful, other than a plastic bracelet or something, of course.

I totally agree I waited till 17 before getting my ear pierced. Actually Im lying, I didnt get it pierced, I simply stood in front of the mirror, aimed, and shoved in the stud

It is just a culture thing.
On the continent precious metal earings are normally a Christening present for girls. It doesn't bother me in the slightest on girls.

Boys is another matter though.

I will agree with you on that one, my wife is Portuguese, and as you say, it is a christening present for girls. But not boys. It looks ok over there as most girls have their ears pearced with a stud (not wheel stud ).

Don't like boys with earrings though.

To my eternal shame, have a young cousin who I believe is aged about 2.

Already he has a sleeper in his ear, wears a gold neck chain with boxing glove pendant (I kid you not) & sports a tork bangle. HE'S 2 YEARS OLD.

In addition, mother (my aunt) dresses him in adidas trainers (never worked, but can afford branded trainers which he will grow out of in weeks & which are bad for his feet anyway) & buys him numerous baseball caps.

However, not content with dressing him like a chav, she actually christened him Billy Jo. Yes, BILLY JO. So he either ends up as a Country & Western singer (his full name being Billy Jo Chopham, yee hah) or a Porn Star (BJ !!!).

I hope I was adopted as a child.

I worked a summer season at Gullivers World in warrington...

i couldnt believe the number of kids with peircings - especially babes in arms - barely out of the womb with 1 or 2 earrings in each ear - boy or girl.

felt it was akin to child abuse at times when they were that young.
