Tops on or tops off - an observation

I'm not going to get into the argument about whether we should have our soft tops on or off on days like these - but I'd like to throw in an observation that i've made during the last couple of days when I've been out doing my errands.
This isn't true all the time, its senario of "more likely vs less likely".
Owners of cars where the soft top is a feature (eg MGT/F, MX5, MR2, Z3, Boxster, etc) seem to be more inclined to have the roof down than the people who have bought a model of a car that specifically has a soft top (eg Saab 93, BMW 3s, Merc CLKs, Audis etc.)
The people who seem to of bought the soft top model seem to be the ones who keep their tops up.
However, I have noticed that the slightly more quirky soft tops, eg Beetle Cab, 205CC, etc have had their tops down.
Anyway, its not scientific but merely an observation.

As an S2000 owner, if you're caught by someone from www.s2ki.com without the roof down, you have to have a damn good reason

Given the UK's erratic weather patterns, I personally think they're a bit redundant (dives for cover
). But ironically more softtops/cabriolets/convertables (call them what you want) are sold here than anywhere else in Europe. Can't prove it, but I heard this on telly not too long ago.

Quite agree.
Would appear the fear of spoiling ones bouffant is the main reason why the ladies dont lower their tops (!!).
This obviously begs the question as to why then a car, costing several thousand pounds more than the model upon which it is based, with inferior handling, more chance of electrical gremlins & more chance of occasioning injury, is purchased in the first place.
Speaking from personal experience, I never let the thought of the wind upsetting my blonde highlights get in the way.

Know that feeling, as a TVR driver I'm expected to be topless nearly all the time!!!
At least you S2K drivers only have to push a button.

Couldn't she use one of those elastic hair tie things that I'm always having to dig out of the bowels of the washing machine?
I, of course don't have a top/roof (clicky
) or a windscreen, so the issue never arises. Rain is only water after all 
. It can't harm you. In fact it's the stuff of life, which is probably why I feel more alive when I've been driving in the rain

Arent you worried about a stone being thrown up & liberating a third eye in the middle of your forehead ?
Alternatively, do you wear a crash helmet (which surely takes away some of the pleasure of driving with the rood down in the first instance).

I had a great blat on Sunday from Milton Keynes to Roade in Northamptom, via the lanes, sans roof. It started sunny and got darker and darker, until about 4 minutes from my destination it pi$$ed down.
I was grinning like a wally, trying to keep above 40mph in order to stay as dry as poss.
Brother-in-law almost wet himself watching me race to put the roof on, on his driveway!
