I know 2 people who have been hypnotised to stop smoking.
One stopped for a good 6 months, just didn't have cravings anymore but then started up again when he joined the army.
The other said he didn't want to smoke when he came out but did anyway...why the hell he bothered I don't know!!

I think if you want to quit if can certainly help. Just never give up on will power!

Trying to convince Mrs Knee to let me hypnotise her... for some reason she doesn't believe that I will stick to just persuading her to stop smoking - seems to think I may introduce the concept of another woman!

That, and I have no experience of hypnosis.

My Doc has suggested hypnotherapy to try and help me with an ongoing stomach complaint - I must say I'm not too keen on the idea of someone digging around in my brain.

She also suggested accupuncture which I am going to try first.

Don't want to put a dampner on it but I know several people who were hypnotised for addictions recently and the sucess ratio here isn't good.

In fact out of 5 people (for various complains - one bullimic, rest smokers) 4 failed (all within 24 hours - some had multiple sessions and just 'couldn't be hypnotised').

Only one who succeeded was a lady who had been smoking 50 years who was hypnotised to give up. However given her husband had died from cancer 5 days earlier (smoking related) - I put her stopping down to her loss and determination of her willpower than the hypnotist...

Oh mate! I promise I didn't giggle when I read that.,. [whistles innocently]

But... I'd give a vote to Allen Carr... worth the money as I gave up back in April. I smoked one cigarette last week when I was ABSOLUTELY plastered and it was foul - I have happily avoided them ever since. NO cravings at all (just a stupid fk it attitude once... don't regret it becase I haven't had ANY desire to have one since).

Yeah, but there's the hassle of making the appointment, turning up, listening to people etc, etc. I couldn't be bothered myself.

To be honest the amount of money I have spent on cigs while putting it off I could have paid for the session 3 times over

I paid £195 (I think we have a voucher for a tenner off which I'll gladly post to you)

I will say that it didn't work for mrs_knee nor my sister and we were all at the same session. BUT they have both got their money back (it's part of the guarantee).

IIRC the sessions are about £150 (don't know for sure as I used the book, best £5 I ever spent) but they come with a guarentee. If you start again, you can have more sessions for free, or get your money back.

Dabbled with hypnosis myself after buying some old books in a charity shop. Very, very, very good fun indeed! Post hypnotic suggestions can be hilarious. "Every time you hear someone say peanuts, you will cluck like a chicken, you'll be embarrased and curious by this and this feeling will make you cluck louder and louder and when you have clucked at the absolute loudest you can cluck, you will forget everything"
