A fair point..
I've had one since I was 18 (8 years ago now).. A good friend of our family can be held largely responsible for mobiles in the UK as he carried out the feasibility study (as an accountant) into Aircall's UK market.. I believe they became Vodafone!

I have lived without a telly between 1983-1988 and 1998-2003 and I'm becoming sooooooooooooo aaaaaaaarrrrrrgggggggggghhhhh that I have to live with the damn thing now! Apart from the fact that "House" is on tonight...
....and we've got CSI: Miami taped....

My brother is like you. He has a mobile, but he doesn't know the number and only turns it on in the case of an emergency (he works in London and his wife insists he carries it at all times so he can ring her if there's a problem).
I have to have a mobile for work.
When I am at work it is on silent so it doesn't disturb me. I don't have an answer service either.
It is used so that the office can text me if the wheel drops off while I am out.
When I am not at work it is switched off and left at home.
Phones of any description are hateful devices.
I also despise televisions and would not let one in the house if it wasn't for the family.
I would happily survive with the internet, my CDs and Radio 4.

I should come clean. I do have a mobile.But,It's some outdated bit of junk given to me by my brother. He just about convinced me to take it for free and keep it in the car, in case of an emergency or breakdown.....mental or otherwise

Same here, never have my phone turned on, and only carry it when I'm out in the car, just in case I break down. Think I've only put £10 of credit in it in the last year!
Really wouldn't want to go back to not having mobile internet. I have my phone set to vibrate, since I don't feel compelled to answer every call (why should I stop dead just cos someone wants to talk to me?), and don't do much in the way of texting, etc.
However my phone also is a fairly constant net connection wherever I am (certainly anywhere in Europe I've tried).
As to the 'I don't need a phone' brigade, it's just a matter of how you use one... you don't have to have some retarded ringtone, you don't have to drop everything to answer every call, you don't have to get carpal tunnel texting all your mates every 20 seconds. It's just a comms tool at the end of the day, and mine's a PDA as well. Wouldn't want to go back to paper-based personal data storage... backups are cool

Mobiles are a pain. More than that, an expensive pain, but just sometimes very useful.
I would like to volunteer my mother (84) as the least tecchie person I know. Colour TV and radio but - no stereo, no VCR, no DVD player, no mobile and no computer or interweb thingy.
