Get out of Asian area, window cleaner told
By A Correspondent
A WINDOW cleaner tried to build a business empire by stealing from a rival and telling him to leave an Asian area, a court heard.
Tanvir Akhtar, 31, shook Stephen Fairbrother, 41, from his ladder after telling him: “This is my f****** area.” Police were called after a series of complaints from window cleaners in Oldham, Greater Manchester.
Initially the police hate crime unit investigated, but the incident against Mr Fairbrother, which took place in a predominantly Asian suburb, was treated as a commercial dispute.
Minshull Street Crown Court in Manchester was told that Mr Fairbrother’s family had worked on the patch since the 1960s. But in September last year Mr Fairbrother was shown a leaflet advertising another window cleaning company and rang the number.
Henry Blackshaw, for the prosecution, said: “It was answered by an Asian man who became abusive so he hung up.” The following month Mr Fairbrother was approached by Akhtar, who said his name was Ali, and another Asian man.
Mr Blackshaw added: “Ali made it quite clear he was not welcome to clean windows in the area any more. He went on to say, ‘This is an Asian area. Take your ladder and go’.”
On November 10, Mr Fairbrother was cleaning an upstairs window when he was approached by three men, including Akhtar, who pulled his ladder away and kicked him while another stole his ladders.
Akhtar, of Oldham, was arrested the following month. Akhtar had denied robbery but later admitted to theft of the ladders. He was sentenced to 18 months’ community rehabilitation and ordered to pay £135 compensation.
Judge Stuart Fish said: “This was not very impressive behaviour or a very impressive way of dealing with a commercial dispute.” Andrew Devine, 38, also of Oldham, also pleaded guilty to theft and is awaiting sentence.

I suspect that the "this is an asian area" was an excuse to lever out the white window cleaner. Had the competition being asian as well then I doubt they'd have been welcomed with open arms either! He wasn't told to stop cleaning windows because he was white, he was told to stop cleaning windows because the asian guy wanted all the business, or am i missing something?
Any sort of religious/colour/race antagonism should be treated with the severest of penalties and steps done to prevent its occurence, ie:-Ghettoes. It makes me cross how us Brits (not necessarily white native ones) are being pushed around by people who class themselves as a sub-class. I'm sorry, whilst you can salute your origin, if you are living in our country, you respect the people in it, our rules apply first and if you can't deal with that,
off to France!
This country needs punishment to be proper punishment. (Is that too conservative?) I'd have chain gangs, etc, etc. Grrrrr!

The Asian bloke was bang out of order but it is a commercial dispute, first and foremost.
However I'm sure other charges could follow.

I think peoples issue is if the situation was reversed. Whire chap says to Asian chap, "this is a white area" and proceeds to removed said Asian chap from ladder. This would be a racial incident.

I hope that Jas was being facetious, referring to the disgusting PC-ness about "Muslims" and not "Asians" around the 7/7 events.
Oli.
read through the article in the paper, and it appears that one of the guys who nicked his ladder was white, so it's not totally clear if it was a racially-motivated incident - maybe someone can clarify this for me?
however if it was perceived by the victim as a racial incident, the police have to investigate it as such.
these sort of turf-war incidents go on all the time...
incidentally, i got harassed outside a Blockbusters (in Tolworth) shop late at night. i was told to go back to Brixton, but the (funny) thing is i'm not black. i just happened to be wearing a baseball cap with short hair (and slight tan). i don't see this as a racial incident - more a group of lads acting like tw8ts.

I think perhaps we might be dealing with a bunch of paranoid/afraid white people here then!
There's no way you can say, without question, that if the roles were reversed, we would be looking at a racial incident.
Furthermore, contemplating "what ifs" has never been largely beneficial to anyone.

I got robbed at knifepoint on the end of Red Lion Road when I used to live round there.
Tolworth Broadway is a strange old place!
