organic veg delivery
Discussion
The better-half and I have been discussing this recently, she sent me a link (www.abel-cole.co.uk/) this morning. Seems pretty decent, if more expensive then fetching it yourself.
We worked out that, as the place we're moving to next month has a decent butcher nearby, we can avoid the whole supermarket thing mostly and just shop monthly for bulky items (loo roll, rice, pasta, etc).
Seems like a goo idea to me if it saves us a few hours shopping each week and the quality is good.

I would be careful talking about organic veg on here, there's a couple rabid flesh chewers on PH who might offer to deliver it to the wrong end
If you have time, there are bound to be some good farmers markets around there. They (around here at least) have realised that most couple work and have started doing them on the weekend too
Supermarkets, frightfull places
Did the veg box thing, ended up with a load of mung beans which in addition to being hideous I had no idea what to do with them.
Recently however stage 2 of operation smash the supermarkets came into force and there is a farmers market every week within 6 miles of me.
Its much better quality and cheaper than either supermarkets [spit] or veg box companies.
Less food mileage too, which means you can spend more on your own petrol with good conscience!

Go to farm shops und farmers' markets. Ist
for food.
Und have little patch in garden where we grow some of our own too - lettuce, und soft fruits und we have two apple und damson trees in garden too und we have tubs mit mint und parley und coriander und so was. But ist little problem
- we have to do some gardening instead of sitting in garden...
Ist hard work at time.

Ist hard work at time.We get a delivery every Friday from Abel & Cole . They offer a choice of boxes and do meat and fish too. Their bacon makes my Saturday mornings.

Your butchers might sell veg as well, it's worth checking. Our one in the village where we live does, but you have to ask him to put stuff by as it's usually the dregs and mouldy stuff left by the end of the day.
I work in a small town called Olney, so I pop out during my lunch break with my little shopping bag and get my fruit and veg from a real grocers and my meat from a real butchers! I only go to the supermarket to stock up on bulky stuff like washing powder and toilet roll now. It's much cheaper and much better quality and I don't end up throwing it away because I bought too much and it's gone off.

The Olney butcher's is good but 2 of the three guys that work there do look as though they are from the League of Gentlemen.
Have found the farmers market to be a bit too expensive.

Just been looking at that Able and Cain site.
Looks good.
Does the price include delivery or not? Can't find any mention of delivery costs.
if u stick ure postcode in to see if they deliver near you it says yes and delivery is freedoes look pretty good
Being near Milton Keynes (No laughing please) they will only do the courier based ones. Still may give it a go.
be careful of the delivery sites and local butchers, theyre very open to scams. my mum saw an article on gmtv this morning about it. i always get it from tesco, which may or may not be a good idea

i was crying with laughter into my (genetically modified Tesco smoked) bacon sandwiches yesterday morning when I read this. The mental image of thousands in Notting Hill quickly grabbing the plate infront of darling child and scraping the contents into the bin realising they had been fooled was too much!

yes i imagine theres a big con on but am more looking for straight from the farm produce that hasnt been in a factory for a week a la tesco kindof thing. if its organic all the better but local fresh stuff with a few vitamins in is what am after!
The only good Farm shop I know selling fruit and veg is on Tonbridge Road between Wateringbury and Maidstone, which is rather a long way away, although handy for us as we go past on route to the in-laws.
So if you can find a good farm shop in the vicinity of T Wells I'll be grateful.
For meat there is a good farm shop at Mark Cross on the way to Heathfield. Do excellent bacon, and we have been watching the piglets growing. They'll soon be yummy bacon! They do Lamb, Beef and Prk at present. All grown on the farm.
