The family and I have recently got back from a cruise round the Med - it was outstanding! We particularly liked Venice, and I promised I'd take them back there for a few days. As such, does anyine know of a decent hotel in the middle of the City they can recommend?

What's your budget like? Central Venice isn't cheap, but there are some nice hotels the Duodo Palace is nice though and it's pretty central.

I'm more concerned about location than anything - I'd like us to be in the middle of things!

Locanda Vivaldi, about 2 minutes walk from St Marks. I stayed there for a couple of nights in May and it was very nice. They do have a website. A quick google should find it, though I booked via Easyjet website.

also, try and go in October, thats when Carnivale is on. its truly amazing, you will love all of the costumes, live bands and parties etc.

unless you're scared of clowns like me, in which case you'll spend the entire time hiding behind your missus and sobbing

I think you'll find Carnevale is about 6-7 weeks before Easter/Lent. It should start around 20th Feb next year.

Maybe you were thinking of "I Santi": All souls/all saints which is 30 Oct/1st Nov?

As for hotels, this one is pretty good:

Doges palace is well worth a look in as well, less crowded than the basilica, oh and if you get time a trip over to Murano and Burano is well worth it, lovely places, like a smaller scale Venice.
