Not sure if this one has been done, but I saw this tonight, and it was awesome.

Its a great story (ok abit unrealistic).
Bob Hoskins is fantastic and the fight sequences are just brutal...I liked it even more than Ong Bak.

Plus its set in Glasgow (though no-one has a scottish accent)..and most of the cast are Brits (although they all do get the shit kicked out of them)

My mate was telling me about this and it sounds really bizarre. Is it right that he is raised as a dog by Hoskins? (This shouldn't be a spoiler as neither of us have seen it.)

We saw it and I was impressed with the acting, the fight scenes and to some extent the plot.

But it didn't work. It wasn't a bad film by any means, but, well it just wasn't all there for some reason.

yep, he is, and he is used like some sort of pit bull to be set on people who owe him( Bob Hoskins) money.
Except that he is far more vicious!

Cool, glad it's good. Will def go see it.

If you haven't already get hold of Kung Fu Hustle, absolutely the best martial arts film I've ever seen (IMO). Funny as fook and the effects/fight sequences are bloody amazing!

Saw this a while back, whilst it's good and the fight scenes are awesome (although NOT a patch on Ong Bak's) I agree that it doesn't work, just seems a messy mixup of 3 different genres:

1- Average British Gangster flick
2- Well choreographed and brutal HK Martial Arts film
3- Bizarre emotional lovey dovey, gush gush, blind Morgan Freeman and his brace wearing daughter playing the piano movie!

All seemed rather odd to me, I've seen films that attempt similar things before and it can work (From Dusk til dawn for one, half tarantino crime flick and half bloody vampire horror movie) but this just seemed confused if anything.

Bizarrely most Americans don't seem able to distinguish between the scottish and english accents, or at least the american guy we have working for us can't.

Is he tone deaf or something??

I have some team members up in our Glasgow office and trying to understand one of them sometimes is a nightmare - his Glaswegian accent is so strong.

Gnearally a good film, but I agree with the posts above, it didn't seem to gel together very well.

Reminded me very much of Leon.

Think they are by the same director, Luc Besson?.

Definitely hints of Leon in there.
It was a good film but did seem to be a bit too much of the Morgan Freeman human interest section and not quite enough of the martial arts incredible fight scenes IMO.
I have just watched Kung Fu Hustle and IMO that is much more what I like in a martial arts film.

I still liked Unleashed though, some good fight scenes and the British gangster parts were very cool too!

looking forward to seeing this one, watched a few similar ones recently:

Hero - thought this was fantastic, better than house of flying daggers
Kung Fu Hustle - never seen a film like it in my life! is a bit childish at times, but so good I've watched it 3 times already & bought shaolin soccer (same actor/director) which was okay but not as good as KFH or Hero.

I hope he does a sequel to Leon with Mathilda (Natalie Portman)

She would be all grown up and ready to kill!

As long as they don't turn her into an action hero type like Lara Croft or make the movie with lots of silly special effects & giving it 12 rating etc just for the money/hollywood..

Yeah a sequel to Leon would be cool, but it would have to be a sequel and not a remake as the original is a fantastic film

My wife saw the trailer of "Unleashed" and commented at the time that she'd quite like to see it.

She's since read a review and decided she doesn't want to see it, so I guess I'll be waiting until it comes out on DVD now.
