You could do a search on Google for "Airbus A300-600ST" the modern jet version of the Super Guppy. Or the Antanov An224 the largest flying aircraft, one of a kind that was designed to carry the Russian Buran shuttle and now based out of Germany as a cargo plane.

Seen that on telly before now, and where its a giant in every sense.
I was wondering, as I say, about loads carried outside a fuselage.

its quite mind boggling, to imagine something taking off with this in its belly

But to answer your question, this one's carrying a wing on its back.

it allways amazes me to think that this thing can carry a 70 ton MBT as well.

Not cumbersome but quite suprising....wouldn't want an impatient pilot lining up behind you at Heathrow would you?!

Quantas used to carry spare engines on the wing. Most unusual - I believe I saw one @ Thiefrow in the 70's. I think they started with Lancasters carrying spares for the Lincoln (?) and only stopped when engines were realistically reliable.

Not plumbed in, obviously, but carried to stranded A/C on the routes.

That particular aircraft holds the world altitude/weight lift record. 250 tons up to 33,000ft.

We had it into Baghdad a number of times. Very impressive aircraft. Every single member of the crew is of Captain rank.

Is that not really a B-29 Superfortress, which eveolved into a Stratocruiser, which evolved into a Super Guppy?

It used the wings, engines, tail unit, undercarriage and other smaller components of the B-29.
