Went to another wedding this weekend, and my mate (who I will call matt, not only for illustration purposes but also because its his real name) had an excellent day/night, as did everyone, wedding which went brilliantly... until the end.

Quite a few of us stayed the night in the hotel where the reception was, and around 1ish started making our way to bed. Matt asks of of the best men for his room key, nope, didnt didnt have it, so a trip to reception to pick it up and they are on their way! (matt and the bride that is, the best men has their own rooms ;))

Upon entering room, matt is suprised to see his grandmothers gear strewen about. Oops, wrong room. So he goes back to reception "seems youve given us a key to the wrong room, we booked the bridal suite."

Reception: Sorry, who are you?
Matt: The ****ing groom you jellybrained tw@heads!
Reception: Im awfully sorry sir, but... we dont have a room for you.
:yikes:

Without a doubt thats the ultimate in piss-poor management. Hes a very laid back guy, but went absolutely mental, understandably!!

They simply didnt have a room they said, offered apoligies, Matt just got more and more wound up, conversation included alternate hotels, and then they suddenly "found" him a room. It wasnt the bridal suite, but it was a room nevertheless.

They'd be hard pushed to have made a bigger cockup if they'd tried

£10 for a club sandwich anyone?
Cost to make: 40p
Cose of service: £9.60
Quality of service: You've got to be joking!

I agree that it was apallingly bad service, however one or two things confuse me.

I don't know about anyone else, but I always check into my room as soon as I arrive at a venue, mostly to make sure I actually have a room and that it is ok but also to dump my bags.

Ok, it was their wedding and maybe they didn't have time, but surely that is one of the duties of the best man?

I'm not for one minute saying that the situation wasn't awful, but FFS, discovering the problem in the early hours of the morning isn't really the best of situations either.

(BTW, one of the rules of posting on PH is "never start a thread whose sole purpose is to have people agreeing with you as it will not happen". )

When my brother got married, not only was his name spelt incorrectly on the board in the registry office but the registrar persistently pronounced his name wrong as well and had a little giggle to herself each time she did so.

Our wedding was great, I couldn't have paid the Vicar for the comedy that came forth during the service we had:

Feinting bridesmaid,
Vicar missed the marriagebit and skipped a hymn, (i had to interject)
and he did a sermon about a member of his flock's wife running off with someone else and divorce.

You needed to be there though.

Every time I go to a wedding I cringe during the service, I would dread the whole service thing and will NOT look forward to that one bit if I ever took the plunge

Spelling is not one of his strong points unfortunately

A very good point. The bride stayed in the hotel the night before, god knows where their stuff was or how this actually came about - in the morning I just heard the facts. Matts dad said he wasnt saying anything till he'd heard iot from the horses mouth. Possibly a case of surname mixup, I dont know who got the bridal suite, or... if there even was one I'll bet that whatever happened, the hotel will find the most plausible and reasonable excuse, and present that one to the family after its been stretched and polished by management.

Went to a wedding in South Africa a few years back (5* lodge in Natal highlands - WOW).

Everyone congregated in the chapel (converted cow shed) and the ceremony started. The groom waited at the front, the bridesmaids walked down the aisle very solemnly, then the fanfare for the bride and her father.

Everything stopped. Something was missing... The priest! Turns out the priest thought it all started an hour later, luckily though she was on hand and we kicked off again 15 mins later

Well, one of my little bridesmaids was sick down the front of my wedding dress in the church, just after we signed the register! Bless her!!! (not) surprisingly for me, I kept my cool and my mum and her mum, wiped it off the best they could with some baby wipes. I had to spend the rest of the day, folding my dress where the sick stain was for the photographs so it didn't show! Ah well it was memerable and it was a sign of things going worng as my husband and i are now divorced!

Ohhh, that must have been grim! By the end of the day you must have been pretty sick of all the folding

Oh yeah, and at my brother's wedding, the cake fell over and the miniature bride and groom's heads came off.

When I married MrRotty, Dad and I had whispered disagreement at the top table, which culminated in me telling him, sotto voice, to "f**k off, you're ruining my wedding". So he did - before the speeches. MrRotty still occasionally thanks him(11 years later)for getting him off the hook(MrRotty hates public speaking.)

We received a lovely bouquet and written apology from him whilst on honeymoon - but my Mum still hasn't forgiven Dad.

It was his dads mothers room, with the same surname.

He is non violent, a VERY nice, reasonable and laid back guy (his reputation preceeds him) ... apparently he did loose his rag even before he found out there was no room for him, physically grabbed the chap who showed him to the room, and threw him into the room! (no word of a lie)

In which case a Registry Office wedding maybe more appropriate - you can more or less tailor the service according to individual taste.
