Yeah. 55 I heard. Which is pretty impressively low considering the size of the fecka.

I'm sure the toll will rise but, considering the size and scale of the storm and the densely populated area affected, the death toll will be relatively light. All thanks to good advance warning systems, good evacuation procedures and well trained and resourced emergency services.

If this was Bangladesh or Sri Lanka you would be looking at thousands dead and whole communities wiped out.

jimbeaux i think is part of FEMA so we may not hear from him for a couple of days. chin up though jimbeaux.

i have some friends at FEMA in Atlanta and they were mobilising everything to New Orleans yesterday.

as far as I know all FEMA personel had any days off cancelled on Friday due to Katrina and its expected arrival.

Seems like Crocodiles could create a problem as well
From a Vette forum in America.

Guys, I'm headed to New Orleans tomorrow to do some Search and Rescue for the Army. I fly an Army scout helicopter and will be in support of FEMA personel to assess the damage and hopefully find people alive. Hopefully the crocs will stay in their own back yard and not go into the neighborhoods. I'm expecting to find floating bodies in some of the hardest hit areas. My thoughts and prayers will be for the suffering there.

Flordia does not have corocodiles they live in India and Oz

The problem is Florida is with Alligators that will be drawn to people walking in the water.

I bet they're not Walking on Sunshine down in the deep south today.

In fact, I have a strong feeling that the Biloxi Blues are pretty evident at the moment.

Apparently one of the problems with New Orleans ive read is it is on sea level so the water needs help to recede but if the water is too deep then they cant power the pumps, whoops.
