My faith in human nature has been restored.
Yesterday I managed to drop my mobile in the parking area of a local heath while taking my dog out for a walk.
I only missed it when I got home. To cut a long story short after returning the heath and searching with no luck I returned home. I rang my number and a lady answered. She had found the phone and was looking through the address book to try and find a number to call to say she had found it. She very kindly waited until I went back and handed it over to me.
Wasn’t that nice.
Ho hum guess I’m stuck with the old phone a while longer then.

Reminds me of an incident a few years ago when I managed to leave my briefcase complete with laptop computer, mobile phone and filofax behind in a car park.
Anyway to cut a long story short some student girlie found it and leafed through the filo, she worked out that obviuosly calling my mobile wouldn't work and instead called by brother ( she recognised the surnames matched in my phone book ), a short time later me and said briefcase were reunited.
Student girlie turned out to be very pleasant and was having a joke with me saying that half of her mates were telling her to keep it! I gave her £75 which was all the cash I had in my wallet as a reward

The most surprising thing here is that there is a thread about something which to me seems to be the only thing you should do.
i.e: try to find the rightful owner.
Its a sad reflection on the UK (or life in general) that dishonesty is so rife.
I left my mobile on the roof of my car, managed to sling it off in the airport roundabout. I only noticed an hour later on the M25, called my number and this nice guy answered. He kindly dropped it thru my letterbox at home packed in an envelop with kitchen towels so it wouldnt get damaged falling to the mat.
I was very surprised and also restored some faith in the otherwise useless mankind

Found a purse outside our house a couple of years ago, it was full of credit cards etc but no cash. It did have her address in, so found her number off the internet and rang her, but no answer. Decided to hand it in at our local police station that was a couple of miles away. Heard nothing for a couple of weeks so decided to give the police station a ring. The purse had been claimed, she had apparently lost the purse when dropping her kids off at the school opposite. No acknowledgement at all from her, not even a simple phone call!!!

Absoluitely - but our default position is that the general populace will lie and cheat and steal wherever possible; experience has borne this out.

I found a ten pound note in the street once. By a process of clever deduction I worked out who it must belong to.
I phoned the Queen and she couldn't even be bothered to come round to my house and get it (there's gratitude).
Then I remembered that where I had found the note there had been an old gent with a sign asking for spare change. I asked him what he would do with the tenner and he said he would treat himself to a fried breakfast and a pint which I thought was an excellent idea, so I did and very nice it was too.

Wish i had a quid for every phone left in the back of my cab,ime forever dropping phones,credit/debit cards wallets etc back to people, most people are grateful and one woman even gave me £20 but then there are some that just take it off you and dont say a word, ungrateful B ds
If I should ever leave my phone in the back of your cab I promise I'll give you that quid - can't say fairer than that

Found a wallet recently which had a cash card, mobile top up card and £15. I asked a group of local kids if they were missing anything. Apart from a load of smart answers, no-one could identify it so I kept it myself. Once I got home, I got a knock at the door and the lad could identify it and got the right contents and the name on the cash card. He was mightily happy to get it back. He even offered me £5 reward for finding it. I didn't accept but it did make me think that not all teenage kids near me are complete nobheads. I was really pleased it had found the right home again.
Finding a wallet with a few cards in an a couple of quid is one thing, you'd return it (do to others etc..)
But what if you found a breifcase with say 10 grand in it?? Wonder how many would still be as quick to get it back to the rightful owner??
methinks I would have a seriously difficult time handing that lot back

Whenever I find money, I let God decide whether I should keep it or not... I throw the whole lot in the air and ask God to return any that I should keep...
