Got a killer ear ache, a really bad one, its worse than a searing hot spiked iron poker being twisted around inside my ear canal. The pain is almost unbearable :(

Whats the strongest painkiller available over the counter, something I can pick up without a prescription from tesco tonight?

Just remember that the strongest painkillers are not always the best - too strong a pain-killer, even off the shelf, can make you feel worse.

Go to a chemist and ask

Co-codamol perhaps, though it makes you constipated...

Warm a little olive oil and soak a piece of cotton wool with it, then stick it in your ear, works a treat. Failing that anything Ibuprofen based.

Nurofen plus, is the strongest I believe, it contains codeine which i have allways found to be the most effective pain killer at the max allowable dossage. Alternatively to save a few quid you can buy co-codamol and take 3, giving the same dossage as 2 nurofen plus. If the pain goes on for long it might be worth checking that you dont have an ear infection ehich needs anti biotics, I had one recently was agony. You have my sympathy.

Paracetemol with Codine I believe. The codine dose is tiny though and it did nothing for me when I had adult chicken pox. Get to the doctors and get some proper codine. until you stop taking it then its more like

Also worth noting that there is nothing wrong with taking ibuprofen and paracetemol at the same time. If you were to take paracetemol with codine and ibuprofene with codine at the same time that might have some kick... Don't take too much paracetemol though as it can be nasty I blieve.

PS don't listen to my advice, or at least if you kill yourself don't sue me.

You may have an infected Ear Drum in which case I would advise you check in with your Dr just incase, because if you have an ear infection the pain will get alot worse.

....but don't worry if enough fluid builds up it'll rupture the membrane and a yellow smelly eggy/custard textured gunk will come running out of your ear

sounds like an ear infection to me. Go see a doc, and a course of anti-biotics should do the trick, plus a good clean out - its amazing what gunge an ear infection puts in there, and that might be what is causing the pain.

You need Nurofen 400. 400 mg tabs as the name suggests. Real Elephant tranquilizer stuff. I have a pack left in my brief case from when a dentist in Amsterdam pulled a tooth with no anesthetic

penacillin and antihistamines, but theyre antibiotics not pain killers, I think.

Sounds like proper strength stuff! Either that or the bottle of whiskey. Or both. And If I threw up the pills theres always the other half of the bottle of whiskey

I went to the doc yesterday who suggested ear drops I explained that i'd had very bad ear infections in the past (visiting emergency at 3am once, I was 22 or so and actally had tears running down my cheeks despite being on VERY strong prescription voltarol) ... told him I didnt want to piss about and see what happened, so he prescribed me what he said was the strongest antibiotics he could give me

I think you have an inflammation in your ear and the normal painkillers won´t do. You need to get it checked asap and they will probably give you some antibiotics for it. Otherwise it will be on painful night ahead.

The very bad ear infections, they're like having temporary tourettes syndrome

Walking around the shops, facial muscles already twitching a little with pain, then a stupendoulsly strong jab of pain hits the ear drum causing severe facial grimices, and before you know it youve blurted out " it!" to no one in particular

Safest to stay indoors I reckon
