I have been to stockholm, but not in february. I went to St Petersburg in February instead.

Firstly, it will be quite cold. I used to live in Helsinki and at that time of year it was about -20 to -10 most days... I liked that though. Think thin normal socks, Thick woollen socks on top of them, warm trousers, tshirt, wool jumper and big woollen overcoat. Hat and gloves are scarf too. I think stockholm will be a bit warmer (its a bit further west)... maybe around -10...

Secondly, Stockholm is really nice. www.stockholmtown.com is a good resource for activities etc.

It's a really beautiful city so just wandering round is pretty nice. I expect it will look quite nice in the winter, especially the Old Town.

There is the Royal Armoury (Livrustkammaren), lots of swords and shields and 500 years of armaments. There is the National Museum with loads of swedish art.

Definately try some outdoors ice-skating. Its really fun to do it outside in the cold. Before I lived in Finland I had never ice skated, now (through playing hockey) I can skate pretty well and I really enjoy it. Always go skating in switzerland at christmas. I really miss being able to do it outdoors here in the winter.

Depending on how long you are there for you could also catch the ferry to Helsinki and spend a day there

I managed to get very lucky and see the Northen Lights whilst I was in Finland... Perhaps a trip up north for a few nights would be cool, you might get lucky and manage to see them. It's an awesome sight. I think jan/feb is supposed to be the best time to see them.

My brother worked in the Arctic Circle in Canada and said that the lights were a great sight.

Stockholm is one of the best cities on the planet IMO.

The people are terrific. Friendly and easy to talk to.

The scenery is stunning.

But its bloody cold in the depths of winter.

Stockholm is one of THE secret special places in the summer. But in the winter it is dark and the nights are long.

Plenty of good bars to hang out in, however. So enjoy !

Finland must be great because Linus Torvalds comes from Finland

The Finland song is on "Monty Python's Contractual Obligation Album", along with such classics as "Sit On My Face" and "Traffic lights".
