one of my (elderly) neighbours keeps asking me if i'm going on holiday. now i'm sure she cares for my well-being and state of mind, but it's driving me a little bit mad. after all, i think i'm old enough to decide what i want to do in my spare time.
i) i really don't like flying - so going abroad (except for the odd business trip, all expenses) isn't really that attractive to me.
ii) i've got enough things to do outside work - arranging music for a band is almost a full-time job, and besides most of my friends/relatives live in Surrey - some run pubs which is quite convenient...
i guess if you stay at home all day, then a holiday means going abroad. whereas to me, any time off work is deemed holiday. thoughts on this? [or should i quit work, get a large rucksack and circumnavigate the globe!].

ok i lied. i got stopped for doing nearly twice in a 20 zone a couple of weeks ago. got off the hook with a bit of an ear-bashing from a nice policewoman [well it was late at night and i though someone was following me <honest>]
anyway, i attended music school (about 20 miles away) on my week off, the following monday, and there was an armed robbery. guess who turned up on the scene? life is full of coincidences.

so on to the important matters then, was she hot?
coincidence 'eh? I think not...Minicity said:
I never go "on holiday". My brother lives in Sweden, so I go and see him once or twice a year for a break. But I don't actually like "holidays". I would rather potter about at home or just have a day out somewhere.
cool, join the club. i've worked and travelled abroad and it's just so much nicer/safer here.
no tsunamis, no hurricanes, and even after i've been rogered twice over by the taxman, it's still the best place on earth. in fact, when i finally get my dream home in Woking i will never go on holiday.

Either that or she's working as a team with a burglar.
hmmm, you know i hadn't considered it from that angle; though she seems like a sweet ol' dear to me.

I dunno... this "abroad" fixation puzzles me. Why do people want to spend so much time and money going to a place in a foreign country that has been made as much like Britain as possible... as much like the horrible bits of Britain as possible? English food, English drink, English language, English people throwing up all over the pavement... (OK, maybe this doesn't apply to PHers, but it does to the majority of holidaygoers.) If you want to spend 2 weeks in a festering dungpile why not just go to Blackpool?

I totally agree. This habit that many Britons have of wanting to holiday in places exactly like home is a mystery to me. It especially annoys me when people go abroad and then bitch about the food/culture/people. Stay at home FFS!

Perhaps she has Alzheimer’s and keeps forgetting she has already asked you.

Could also be senile dementia (MIL has it - not pleasant - keeps asking the same questions over and over again. V. Sad)
