Is George Best still alive
Discussion
Some of you guys are a bit harsh. Alcoholosim is an illness in its self. If you've ever seen someone go through it, you'd understand.
Ok so the guy buggered his liver through drinking, and is working his way through the next by still drinking but an alcoholic stopping drinking isnt like saying i'll stop eating brown bread and stick to white.
What he needs is more treatement not vilification by the press.
if he'd had it replaced due to cancer, and cancer was eating his new liver would it still have been a wasate of a liver ?
I've no particular admiration for GB, as im not a footy fan

He came from a working class background you know.
So do I but I have morals.
he was given a chance following surgery and proceeded to take the piss in front of the whole country. One more drink could kill you they said, so he went to the pub. I dont dispute alcoholism is a terrible thing but in my opinion, he hasnt done enough to try and fight his problems.
Waste of air as far as I'm concerned.
He made no effort to give up booze. Plenty of people would have treated that liver with the respect it deserved. It's an insult to the memory of the person who donated it.
The comparison with cancer is a poor one. Alcoholism may be an illness, but one that you can do something about.
The man was apparently good at kicking a pig's bladder around 40 years ago and is now hailed as a hero for his "legendary" boozing and womanising.
As far as I'm concerned, the only legendary thing about him is his level of idiocy.

Some alcoholics have to hit absolute rock bottom before they can make the decision to seek help and find a way to stop drinking (luckily I didn't, just had to have the Sh1t scared out of me). For others, that won't even work and eventually the disease will kill them. For some no amount of treatment will work, alcoholism is a very misunderstood disease and the doctors/scientists don't even know how the disease works yet.
Allot of uninformed folks think that quiting should be just a matter of will power and some will power is needed, but for some one suffering from the disease of dependency asking them to stop is like me asking you to stop breathing or my favorite analogy, next time you get diarrhea instead of taking medication for it, try controlling it with will power and see how far you get.
I've offered before and it still stands, if anyone on here ever wants/needs to discus alcoholism do not hesitate to Email me. The disease is a hell on earth that most people don't have to continue suffering from.
