mmm, not sure.

My dog has been stung 4 times now. 1st time I rushed to the vets.

Now it's sympathy and a close eye on him.

Don't panic, just keep an eye on him/her, and if they are in "difficulties" (laboured breathing etc,) then straight to the vet.

Hope that helps, as I unsure about recommending antihisthamine for a dog.

When our old dog tried to bite a wasp, my wife held a cloth soaked in vinegar over his swollen muzzle. Helped the swelling go down (and the dog got a liking for vinegar after that).

Our small dog eats wasps & bee's. She gets stung all the time in the mouth but it doesn't bother her at all.

Personally I'd be keeping an eye on him/her and if it has breathing difficulties then call the Vet, but on a saturday night you'll be paying through your nose for help...

shirepro if its a wasp put vinegar on the sting to neutralises the poison, if its a bee use bicarb of soda. check the dogs gums and if they start going very pale its going into shock.also aply ice to the area to reduce swelling, my dog first aid book says to give the dog an antihistimine tablet as well.

Good post Rooster. I knew that wasps and bee stings required different treatments. If in doubt phone a vet and get them there quick.

My last dog used to catch them and clip em in half, scarey or what! Glad he likes me, having a bite reflex like that.

Right, seems like the best advice was to treat it like a human sting (ie try to neutralise it) but watch out for adverse reactions. Not sure if the antihistamine worked but except for a bit of lip licking she seems fine now. Many thanks for your rapid advice.

Of interest, did the site mention different treatments for wasp or bee stings? I'm sure there is a difference just as aspirin can kill a cat or was it a dog? Can't remember now but it's vital to know at the time.
