Need a quiet Oil Burning C/H Boiler?
Discussion
Hi
We really need to replace our C/H Boiler as you can hear it fire up from at least 50 yards from the house!
Part of the problem is that it is sited on an internal wall with the flue up the centre of the house, so we will be re-locating it to an outside wall.
As I know many of you are "Rural Dwellers" has anyone any recommendations for an efficient and quiet type of boiler that we can fit and forget?
Reckon we need around 100,000 Btu's
Cheers
Nick

Most modern oil boilers whether they are in ranges or independent are of the pressure jet type (rather than the old dripping pot type. I'm afraid they are noisy when they fire up though mine (in a Sandeford range) is not that intrusive.
Does your boiler just need a good service?

Thanks David, no it has been serviced and the guy said that it was a very good boiler, just very noisy!
It is about nineteen years old, which type is it likely to be?
Nick
I just fitted a new oil fired boiler and it is great
the advantage over the old one is that as it holds a tank of hot water it means all of the tanks in the roof and the cylinder in the airing cupboard have all now been removed.
I think it is a Worcester brand one and it fits into the space under the worktop of a standard appliance. Cost was about £1200, then you have to pay for fitting etc.

Running it with a low-level balanced flue will make all the difference Nick. The old lined chimney would have been the main cause of the noise. If you are replacing, I would definately go for a Boulter Camray. The Riello burner they use combined with the combustion chamber design is both quiet AND economical.
Nick,
