I haven't been to the dentist since I was about 16, maybe even younger than that (23 now) my girlfriend reckons I should go for a check up to make sure all is ok. She goes every 12 months with out fail.

I've never had any problems with my teeth, no fillings etc.

Last time I was at the dentist he told me I needed braces, never had anyone mention braces to me before so I told him to stuff it.

What do the PH Massive think?

Should I go for a check up or not?

Just had a look at the photo on your profile:

www.thesahara.net/bad-teeth.jpg

I wouldn't bother with the dentist.. just get a new head!

I go to the dentist every 6 months without fail, ive seen too many toothy grins and people without their real gnashers to presuade me to do otherwise..

Just phone your old dentist - see if they'll have ya back - they'll be able to recommend someone who is accepting NHS patients anyway if not.

Im also guilty of this, have appointment booked early November...

If you are too shy to go because you have maggots in your gums, Im sure a fellow PHer could pull them out for you.

If you asked nicely

Some people need to see a dentist on a regular basis. Some people are born with crap teeth. My mum and dad are both in their 70s now and they have each visited the dentist once, to have a wisdom tooth removed. I last visited the dentist 28 years ago and I had 3 fillings which were clearly not needed. If I ever go to the dentist again it will probably be as a result of the 3 fillings. Man has been on this planet for some 4 million years. For the last 100 years we have had modern dentistry. Therfore visiting the dentist is a bit like imposing speed limits. Quite unnecessary.

Yeah go mate. Even if there's nothing wrong it's nice to know and you can have a scale while you're there which will make you gnashers feel sexy

And if there is some decay starting, much better, easier, faster, cheaper and not painful at all to have it fixed while it's small rather than wait until it affects the nerve of the tooth and then your into root canal and crowns which take time money and can be a bit uncomfortable.

But don't pay attention to me, I'm just a plumber

Mate of mine didn't do for ages. Something went wonky in a tooth, which poisoned his blood which knackered his heart.

He now has a pig's valve.

I'd go mate.

You could let my weevils nibble the furr off your tongue whilst kissing me instead

With a bottle of cooking sherry, and some holistic animal fat candles, it could be the most romantic evening of your life

Judging by the pic in your profile your from Kilmarnock - so your teeth should fit in just fine

Just kidding - I've just moved to Killie.

I'd go to the dentist, but i'm fairly paranoid about my teeth.

If he already had a heart lesion and had invasive dental treatment it could possibly have damaged a heart valve yes. A damaged valve or heart lining is MORE easily colonised by bacteria which can enter the blood from dental treatment. As for the wonky tooth, yeah sounds reasonable
