How about this for sods law?
Bought an 18" TFT 3 years ago. TFT develops a minor fault after extended periods of use, a kind of "burnt on" effect.
With 1 week left to go of the warranty period I contact the manufacturer and they agree to a return and exchange.
Much faffing about and 8 weeks they finally get me a replacement.
Within a couple of days the replacement TFT dies totally :(

Surely there is comeback on that?
Can you say it was DOA? In which case the original repair that was under warranty is unfulfilled.
Mind you, I would have thought there was some sort of precedent set in consumer law?

Anal sex is legal between consenting adult men, but not between a married (male / female) couple.
That's what I call Sod's law![]()

Not that I've studied the law on heterosexual anal sex or anything, but you may be pleased to note that it's now changed. Of course, your other half might not be so pleased...

If it was the same one that broke outside the warranty then you could claim it was proximate cause and i have argued and won a replacement on that basis but a replacement should be fit for the use intended. which it obviously was not

The replacement was the same model.
I think I will approach the credit card company on the basis that the goods were not fit for the intended pupose so the retailer broke their contract of sale.

You have 6 years under the Sale of Goods act to claim back for any faulty goods.
Basically it is a test of reasonablness. If you have bought a bic biro and complained it broke after 5 years then a judge would quite reasonably call your claim a load of rubbish. With this TV though, you have a case. You can reasonably expect a replacement TV to work for a reasonable time after you receive it. 8 weeks is most certainly NOT reasonable.
Give your local Trading standards office a call or e-mail - they are quite good nowadays. link to their main site here
