Anyone else here brew their own wine, beer or cider?

For those who reckon all homebrew is rubbish I've recently bought some supermarket wine at more than triple my normal per bottle cost just to do a reality check. Nasty cheap tasting stuff!

I've just started a 30 bottle Shiraz wine kit and a 6 bottle Chardonay kit. Both kits were Heron Bay kits. total cost nearly 70 quid or about 1.90 a bottle.

This little lot will bring my cellar up to over 80 bottles. Yes I know, not much for a home brewer, I've been canning it lately, it's normally a few bottles more!

I did a stock take earlier on. Just one bottle of 2003 cider left. Must get brewing...

here here.

got a cellar full of various - plus a gooseberry kit and a ale kit to get going now we've freed up a 5 gallon barrel and bucket.

the last red we did cost £6 for the kit plus 2 packets of sugar - made 30 bottles of stuff you'd be paying £5-6 in the supermarket.

I can get wine for 1/3 of its UK price in France?

I know it's cheaper over there but I never thought that there was that much price differential!

Read my post, my 1.90 a bottle is for a 50 quid, i.e. decent, kit. At this price a kit is producing a totally different result from the 5 quid rubbish kits stuffed full of e-numbers, added sugar and fruit pulp!

£1.90 a bottle - for something the shops would charge £5-10? done many a lovely kit costing £6-10 making 5 gallons, not to mention going out for a walk and picking wild elderflowers and making own wine - then we're talking £1 for 5 gallons, if that.

Yes thanks

It's looking good in the barrel, nice amber colour... hardest thing is resisting the temptation to start tapping the barrel early.....it's like waiting for xmas!
